In 2003, I was fortunate to visit Kakadu National Park that traditional land owner, ‘Big Bill’ Neidjie had been instrumental in securing for public access and becoming part of the UNESCO World Heritage list. The wonderful national treasures and Indigenous heritage that can be found in this park and many others across the country are best cared for by the traditional custodians of the land who we – and the many visitors that come here – can look to for knowledge of sacred sites, geographies, language, ancient rock art and stories that are unique and specific to this beautiful country.
