Biodiversity & Indigenous knowledge, language, empowerment & culture are my top two 'vote switcher' issues. Every election, I write to all candidates in my electorate to tell them that. Indigenous Rangers are my heroes because they embody both my top values!!!
IPAs and the Ranger programs are so much more than conservation and employment, they achieve truly wholistic outcomes. They are solid ground that Aboriginal Communities have built culturally strong economic, health, research and justice activities on.
What a wonderful way to care for this land and provide jobs for those who really care about it, and have deep knowledge and a real connection with it.
These Guys are doing a fantastic job and with their knowledge of the country and countryside it would be remiss of us as a nation to not utilise this and protect our great country, for the generations that will follow us, to love and enjoy it as much as we do!
As an active Cfa member, I see Indigenous Rangers as the obvious path to travel in managing fuel loads and wildfire. Give Kooris avenue to care for country.
This program is vital because not only does it employ people who have a long history of caring for country, it empowers them to keep traditional systems of knowledge alive and gives back value to their contributions in the perceptions of the modern world!
We need to combine Aboriginal knowledge with conventional science and technology to save precious animals, like the Mala and Partridge Pigeon, through traditional fire management and much else. The IPAs are essential to focus resources and in due course I hope places for respectful tourism.
Indigenous men and women best placed conservationists of country . Like everyone else work brings dignity. Generationally. A no brainer .
Great to see the pride in Rangers looking after country in such important and meaningful work.
As a non-Indigenous Australian, it's important to me that the Indigenous people of this land are at the front and centre of the country we all belong to.
I felt privileged to be able to spend a week working with the rangers. I was deeply humbled by the connection they have to their country, and the efforts they are making to manage a ferocious land mass, and to preserve their culture for future generations.
Getting Traditional Owners onto country is vital to the health of natural resources of that area, and vital to the health of that First Nations community as well. It is invaluable work, indivisible from cultural obligations, and should be supported in any way possible. Indigenous Rangers rock!!
This program is truly amazing - what better way to value, respect and support Indigenous communities than to support rangers?! By taking care of country, providing excellent role models for young people and taking care of the environment, this program will have significant long-term benefits for all Australians.
Our country, our rights, our environment, our place, what we give is what we have. Be true to ourselves? Be honest, trust one another, be aboriginal!
This land has been protected by Aboriginal peoples for tens of thousands of years, lets ensure this rich culture and knowledge is retained and not lost
Help our Mob. This land deserves to be watched over by it's soulmates.
More indigenous perspective on land management would have extremely positive outcomes not only for biodiversity, but the sustainability and well being of our society as a whole through cultural awareness and connection with the earth. It's yet another thing to sign, but please do! ❤️
We sure do, Indigenous people managed country for 60,000 + plus years without the mass extinctions on flora and fauna as we see today due to miss management on our landscapes!
Have just returned from the amazing NT with greatest respect to the indigenous rangers elders and families there. Mr Milton Dick (I'm in 4074) please visit the people & lands these rangers care for. Life changing. We are truly blessed to have them.
Indigenous Rangers are the Best and Only continuously successful Federal Aboriginal Programme going! It makes sense, Aboriginal Rangers are the Cultural Heritage and have access to the Cultural Knowledge and Wisdom of Country, let them take of her! Mother Earth, Country, the Land....She needs them! Let us help Country to heal with her justly appointed Aboriginal Rangers. Doctors and nurses to heal the wounds of the last 200+ years following our Non-Aboriginal Invasion. Ignorant of the needs of Country or people, we can address those wrongs NOW, appoint many many Aboriginal Rangers! Thank you, it is Time! Let's win this one TOGETHER!
Indigenous ranger programs enable people return to country and themselves... strong again in spirit and body.
Our indigenous brothers and sisters know this land better than most. They respect it. We need more indigenous rangers who know and understand the issues faced across our country when dealing with feral animals, the biggest threat to our environment.
I've seen the indigenous rangers a number of locations in Quensland and the Northern Territory. Without exception they were knowledgeable and interested in imparting knowledge. Enhancing the experience of tourists and helping protect our environment.
I believe that before white settlment, & all the depravities associated, our land was cared for & genuinely, loved. No mining, definitely NO FRACKING, which will destroy artesian waters & eventually destroy our landscape as we know it, Australia 's First People lived in harmony & spread seeds of our natural resources. Bless this sacred land.
Indigenous rangers have both a cultural and spiritual connection with the land they care for. Through that, I believe they will encourage the young ones to feel a belonging to country.
Indigenous people need to be part of the land. This is their traditions to protect the land. Ww can learn from the indigenous people and share all our knowledge together. United we stand divided we fall
I support all jobs for Indigenous communities, as I grew up in a Indigenous community in FNQ. I myself am not Indigenous, but I will support anyone regardless of race or culture so they can get the career they want to continue & share with the world.
When travelling along the CSR in May we came across a large group of Indigenous Rangers. They checked our permits and share some important cultural knowledge with us. They were working to renew the signage on the iconic CSR and we were given an info package about their work. Fabulous young people doing a marvellous job!
We the Aboriginal peoples of this land are the custodians I believe also employing parking rangers and aboriginal Air Marshall's will give rewarding career opportunity's for our young people thank you Helen McIntosh Hextall
Aboriginals were raised on the land and no-one would make better rangers. The job was made for them
We value the work that you do in this vital and necessary Natural cause. We would like to encourage and support Indigenous rangers in this mutual concern. Good and worthy self-satisfaction brings its rewards. We salute your efforts and thank you...
Who better to look after the land than your people who have been doing it for thousans of years
You are all wonderful people and do a wonderful job.Keep up the wonderful work Love your Country
Necessary for the good nurture of the land, but also the land care-givers in these programs
I have experienced the expertise of rangers from Aboriginal communities across Australia and they add to the preservation and respect for country as well as being helpful and proud guides when that is required. I also have experienced evidence of the rehabilitation value for the young people engaged in training programs and subsequently becoming fully qualified and teaching their younger friends. The loss of this system would be huge in terms of damage to country and its people.
My GrandFather was an Indiginous Stockman and he tought me the value of our Country
Because I am Aboriginal, and I miss being on the land and taking care of Mother earth {Australia]
They are the original Australians. They know country and how to care for it in a sustainable way. We are not caring for country in a healthy way; we can learn a lot from native Australians.
ITS our country and we need to care for it and hopefully get it back to how it was pre invasion..
It is, and has always been, their country and they should have the deepest understanding of the ways to look after it.
Supporting this program means supporting people, supporting our country, supporting culture and without that what do we really have left?
It is their country and they understand how it works
Growing up I've always loved being outdoors especially the bush and to have the chance to learn about the country I'm living on is just amazing! I didn't realize how much work there is to be done just to take care of the bush and the animals that live there!
I see Country Needs People as the future of our culture across the country and support any action in this direction. I am part of a campaign to protect forests from logging and allow a truly sustainable approach to caring for native forests, in particular the south east of NSW. Visit www.greatsoouthernforest.org.au
This country has always be looked after by the first people as they have held the knowledge, love and integrity for this land for over 40,000 years. And I am so glad they are being named for doing it and being paid. Thank you!
Indigenous people have had to deal with so much - displacement, loss of land and culture. By providing them with employment within their land we give back much. Employment, land and belonging are all aspects that are important to the social determinants of health. If we want to decrease the gap amongst health in Australia (ie a 20 year disparity between life expectancy), this program goes a long way to addressing that.
I support this program as the only way we will be able to protect preserve maintain and rehabilitate this land is with the knowledge the First Nation Peoples of this country. This knowledge needs to be supported and maintained and preserved so it can be shared with the younger generations to come.
We need the extensive knowledge of managing our ancient fire prone landscape which indigenous people have. They have accumulated and refined this knowledge over the many Millenia that they have lived here.
This is a hugely important program to connect people to their country and to give back some of the dignity stolen since 1788. A step towards true reconciliation.
Here's to Ranger programs that have created their own authentic tourism experiences, generating employment, community income and unforgettable memories for visitors and staff as they connect across cultures. This is a future opportunity for many.
Indigenous Rangers do a great job, unseen by most Australians. These are the people who can best understand the land and its needs. There needs to be more support for movements like this.
Here in East Gippsland, I have seen the work & pride in their work. It gives them a reason to get up & out each day. Hopefully many more will choose to give their time & energy caring for their land, animals & vegetation
I have heard good results and benefits are coming out of the ranger program for young and the elder folk and would like our cooperation to learn more about and be a part of this program
Because they own the land and we all need to respect that. The first Australians have managed this land for thousands of year. Respect that fact.🤗
The country needs to be looked after by people who understand it and its needs
I support Indigenous Rangers because it makes sense to employ the most qualified land managers in the country to look after country! Indigenous Australians need to live on and nurture Country and in return Country will nurture their physical and mental health. The health of the Australian biosphere is in desperate need of help, it requires full time intuitive carers to nurse it back to full health. A healthy ecosystem benefits every single person in Australia and is the foundation for a happy and prosperous society. What an awesome legacy for our children!
I support Indigenous rangers & protected areas because it is what makes Australia unique and beautiful. Indigenous rangers have the right to be employed to protect our country!...Indigenous peoples have the right to be employed.
This should be a 'no-brainer'! Supporting Aboriginal people to care for and be on country is a smart way to preserve and share cultural knowledge, create local jobs and more importantly, provide a way in which our young people can retain their connection to culture, traditional country and their future!!
This program is a 'no-brainer' The benefits not only reward communities now but also have a respectful compounding effect on our community members of the future. The sharing of knowledge through this program is powerful and so necessary in the sake of our environment and also the understanding and respect of different cultures
They know best how to protect Australian flora & fauna,
Country is Life for the aboriginal people. To empower them to care for the land and to nurture it brings their people together. It also brings hope and a innate purpose in their lives for which they had been doing for 70,000 years before white settlement. Coming together to celebrate their culture and helping the young to learn about Country helps give them a better understanding of who they are and where they have come from. This why it is so important for young aboriginals living in suburbia to revisit and celebrate their unique way of life!
I support this project as the indigenous rangers are the people that know this land better than most people.
I am extremely proud of the Rangers. There are none more suitable to manage their ancient lands and recuperate those which have been degraded over time.
Supporting a valuable program as Indigenous Rangers, shouldn't need petitions. The stories from the people on this website are inspiring and I'm sharing this so others can share as well.
Far and away they have been looking after their country, for millennia. It is there role by nature to continue to so. The sense of work such as this, creates a wonderful closeness to the land. Plus a wonderful sense of fulfillment to them and their families.
We can't trust pollies who keep selling off mining and farming "rights". This land flourished under the management of her first people. Please help them to heal the land.
I have only just joined this campaign and have not gathered my thoughts well enough to express my thoughts. I will but now i just want to say I am a going to be a passionate support of this movement . The right people will be caring for country . The programme is so positive it’s truly exciting. It is what our country needs which is to be lead by the advice and practices of the Indigenous people of the is magnificent country that needs us to give back rather than constantly take.
The most fantastic project in many years. As an author of Australian books I am barracking for the indigenous rangers program. Youth are the future of all Australians as well as new Australians. Healing our young is a much needed priority and I hope someday my ideas are included to bring young ones home from institutions to a wonderful and understanding community.
This makes total sense to appoint people who actually have empathy with this land. Most of us find it hard to understand with its fragility and extremes. Go to the experts for some excellent and much needed care and attention and, of course, education.
It's time to listen to and learn from the 40,000 + years of accumulated Aboriginal knowledge about how to care for the Australian environment.
For far to long white Australia has not been educated in traditional indigenous ways, we have lost so much knowledge of this land gained over tens of thousands of years, there is still time to get some of it back from the stories past down, rise up Indigenous Nation, I support you.
The land is our home. Aboriginals are the native caretakers with an understanding of the environment far surpassing that of non-indigenous people. The land is fundamental to the Aboriginal culture. If we love and respect Australia we need to support
Meaningful work creates happy communities.
Indigenous Rangers...its a no brainer...perfect job as they care for country & and can teach us white mob so much about the land & their beautiful culture!
I support Indigenous Rangers because they have the connection to country which is total respect for the Earth and themselves. it is time for this re-connection and time for all Australians to understand this.
It is healthy, wise, noble and magnanimous choice to support the original people of this land and to care for the natural environment who we are intimately connected with. Doing so would greatly increase our virtue, prosperity, and self-enjoyment.
Protecting and understanding the natural environment is extremely important and who better to do this that Indigenous Rangers, who have generations of historical knowledge to share with all Australians and International tourists alike.
Only by listening to our indigenous people can I really begin to read, hear, see and understand the land I live on, and with. Then I will truly understand how to protect it properly for future generations.
This program is ideally suited to Indigenous people and brings to the fore their own strengths, talents and passion. Not only were they the first guardians of the land, but the skills and sense of oneness with the land they possess cannot be matched.
They are the FIRST people of Australia and they know more than anyone how to protect this unique and fragile eco system. I quote ( 'our land abounds in natures gift, of beauty rich and rare") from our national anthem
Because this has been from a long long time THERE country !
Indigenous peoples have worked in harmony with the land for thousands of years. It's time we honoured their knowledge, wisdom and their connection to country, as well as empower communities by employing Indigenous rangers across the country.
They are the best at caring for this great land as they have done so for much longer than the white man.
So many reasons! Staying connected to country helps Aboriginal stay strong and maintains culture across the generations. A well resourced ranger system shows support and respect for First Nation people and their priorities. It offers non-Indigenous people a chance to learn from Indigenous people. It's a no brainer that we should be doing this.
In 2003, I was fortunate to visit Kakadu National Park that traditional land owner, ‘Big Bill’ Neidjie had been instrumental in securing for public access and becoming part of the UNESCO World Heritage list. The wonderful national treasures and Indigenous heritage that can be found in this park and many others across the country are best cared for by the traditional custodians of the land who we – and the many visitors that come here – can look to for knowledge of sacred sites, geographies, language, ancient rock art and stories that are unique and specific to this beautiful country.
How could this not be a great idea. This brings real opportunity, hope, purpose and ticks the economic box, its win win. It just makes sense.
We all need self-respect and for many indigenous people this is a natural way to earn it - living on Country, protecting and taking care of it...to the benefit of all Australians.
I think is a brilliant program, that is addressing what is being asked for by indigenous Australians: connection with land and culture and respectful acknowledgment of that culture, through the incredible knowledge and skills they will bring to land management and preservation of the environment. This project should serve as a model that can be brought into many other areas and it should definitely be increased across the country, Australia wide. There is no reason not to do this, as it has been a success on all levels.
The indigenous ranger program makes my heart sing. Indigenous people caring for our incredible country, communities with hope, respect and a future. This is the most logical, empowering, economical and beneficial way forward. Go out and see our country, meet indigenous communities and you will see this is a no brainer. So simple, so viable and with real outcomes on every level.
I really appreciate and value the work of indigenous rangers!! Well done to you all. I fully support an expansion of this program. This is win for all of the Australian community.
We need these indigenous Rangers to look after country they know it best
Because NO ONE knows OZ as well as ABORIGINES DO!
This is just how it should be, the people who know the land, are connected to it on a deep and spiritual level should be the custodians and protectors of it. Who better to teach the rest of us the real value and significance of these places.
Because it's about time the indigenous people got more recognition in these areas and their the best people for this kind of work ,we need to have a lot more indigenous rangers as they are an intrinsic part of our land
All of us non-indigenous Australians - have the chance to support our indigenous people whom we should be proud of for their culture which i feel should be more a part of our mainstream culture; we should extend our support for these programs because they are right for our cultural futures for all. It is a great way to provide positive outcomes for our cultural maturity and for the empowerment of this Country's true first peoples who have a deep love and connection to their Country! - it just makes sense.
Australia' indigenous people deserve to have their links to the land recognised, celebrated and supported in practical ways. Being a ranger allows an indigenous person to combine modern citizenship of Australia with traditional care for the timeless land in a doubly beneficial process.
It's so good for the people and the land! Let's roll this out!
i sadly cannot support financially..i myself have a background through great ,grandmother (mums side)aboriginal, and on dads side torres strait islander..this is Australia and I have a love of the land.and feel a huge connection through nature....most land clearing is changing this beautiful country ,and there are some huge impacts,climate..inpacts weather!!~ forests animals which we must protect for future generations..please help and save this vital work, these beautiful rangers are doing..They are very important for survival for all who live in Australia..no protection!!! no us...no bees no us,..no fish..scary.!!!.no coral...we have lost 3/4 in top end?how very much this saddens me.....Townsville fine at the moment..hard to come back to the lush bush once was..now ..lets make this country perfect, and protect whats right...sadly money talks...lets keep some of Australia...untouched by future 20thcentury greed for riches..
Both ways learning! We have much to learn from our many beautiful indigineous language groups! These people have true passion for the land!!! & passion means power to protect & preserve!!! Its time to make their passion shine!! Both ways learning!!
I am pleased to read this email and I support the indigenous Rangers wholeheartedly
Such a positive program with proven benefits in many areas. Please support indigenous rangers into the future. All Australians need this country looked after and indigenous rangers can teach everyone so much about this land.
This is the true heart and history of our wonderful country and it is essential it is preserved. How wonderful to have our indigenous people employed in protecting country and educating us all in the process.
This is a great idea. The more we can help our people reconnect with the our land the more we can connect with it. Create the new Australia. Free of shame and full of hope and gratitude.
Any protected area needs rangers to help maintain it . Traditionally Aboriginal land needs Aboriginal Rangers especially, for their knowledge and experience and interest .
I come from Argentina and have lived in this beautiful country for over 5 years. Latin America and Australia have the responsibility and the gift of being contemporaries to many people that remember who we are and where we need to be heading. Please do not neglect our past and build world future for all.
Employing more indigenous rangers will be good for our entire country, indigenous and non-indigenous alike. Jobs like this will give indigenous people more pride in themselves and our country.
Indigenous rangers are connected, they have knowledge and the people of Australia need to learn from the ancient keepers of this land.
These people know what they are talking about. Anything that supports people and the environment is worth putting funding into. This scheme is vital to the Aboriginal people and the environment. Please don't cut funding!
The right person for the job is always the most qualified...the enormous wealth of intelligence, knowledge and wisdom of Indigenous Australians is a sorely under-appreciated resource.
There is no one better equipped to protect the Australian Nature than it's original people. I know this and have felt it all my life.
It makes sense to me that the people who have the greatest connection to the land and area have responsibility to care for it, and to be supported to do this if its needed. Heartening to see a program that can give hope to a people, that's very important.
Give the jobs to the experts and create jobs where there are none. Aboriginal People know what the country needs.
We all need these rangers to look after our land and animals. After 40 thousand years plus, this land was in pristine condition. These people know what they are doing.
Aboriginal people have been caretakers of the land for tens of thousands of years. They have the knowledge to combine with modern science to continue to look after the land.
Who better than indigenous Australians to continue to care for country. They have thousands of years of experience
It seems logical to have indigenous pepole to care for the land. They understand it better than anyone else. Their hearts are in it. Why would anyone choose otherwise? So few opportunities are available to aborigines and I trust they would do the best job. It's a natural choice.
Who else knows the land and animals better. They are joined in their souls. Please make the right decision or our land and animals will surely suffer .
Natural areas are vital for mental health, rest and relaxation for everybody. Protected areas, national parks are repositories for animals, plants and need to be undisturbed to survive. Aboriginal custodians can teach everybody the importance of this amazing land.
Simply because this land belongs to the "indigenous" people. Whatever it takes to ensure that us (the invaders) do not destroy or take any more land from them then measures need to be put in place. It is their land and we (descendants from the invaders) should be asking permission to use it.
40 000+ years of experience is a damn good resume, the sort of record any employer would not be able to ignore. This accumulated knowledge and extensive depth of experience will always produce far better outcomes for country than Western methods.
SAVE BILLIONS by creating satisfying jobs, cutting alcoholism, prison numbers and suicide rates. SAVE BILLIONS by reducing BUSHFIRES nationwide.
They are the best people for the job they have looked after this land for a long time and proven their worth for a long long time
Because we have a very poor record of caring for and protecting our wildlife from harm, or worse still extinction. Who better to protect them than Indigenous Rangers who have known this land and its creatures before we were even here. Please help.
Wonderful to see rangers continuing to protect and nurture their country. The on-country school shows it's possible to have the best of both worlds. Congratulations, keep up the great work!
Because our country needs it's original inhabitants to connect with it and help manage it. It gives value to the aboriginal history and connection with the land.
There is no one better to look after the environment and landscape than the people who are culturally connected to these places. Hence indigenous rangers are the best way to manage country. It provides needed employment to indigenous people and it encourages all Australians to understand the connection that indigenous Australians have with their country; there are lessons for anyone who wants to care for country, their lands and waters. If we learn this connection we may all understand what it means to belong.
This programme is working and it is a brilliant long term solution. More of them, and really long contracts. As a tax payer, I think this is money well spent.
Protecting these lands and entrusting our first nations with their care is best policy for everyone.
Indigenous Rangers not only are helping all Australians with the work they do on country, protecting the environment, but they also work closely with local schools. They provide meaningful ways for yourng kids to engage with science, demonstrating a purpose for eduction in remote areas. They do important work influencing generations to come. Aboriginal knowledge is valued in classrooms where rangers visit and/or take students on country to learn both Aboriginal science and 'Western' science together.
They belong to that particular part of the country and therefore are best placed to use their knowledge of that part of the country to protect and conserve it along with fostering further research into how best to continue to do this important work in the face of climate change. It is a continuum that they can pass onto the rest of Australia so we all feel part of this country wherever we are originally from. Good luck with the projects.
This is a fantastic program - good for people and good for country.
Its an inspiring organisation which is proudly actioning care for the Australian landscape.
Good for the people and good for the country.
This land needs its Indigenous people to care for it because they know it - and us white fellas obviously don't have a clue!
Who better to look after this land than the people who have lived here for thousands of generations. They have the knowledge, they are a part of this land as much as the rocks and the trees, the kangaroo and the emu. If they need to be employed according to white man law, they should be employed in taking care of country. White man took their land, now white man can give it back in slightly obscure but meaningful way.
This is the very best thing I've seen in a long time regarding our country and our indigenous people. Please support this initiative in whatever way you can.
This is a program which works because Indigenous people are in charge and working in both traditional and modern ways. It should be fully funded and supported because it is the way forward for young as well as older Aboriginal people. Much respect for this work.
On a recent visit to Darwin I was disappointed to see few Aboriginals employed as rangers. They can do this job better than anyone and should be employed to impart their unique knowledge and perspective. Who knows the land better than they do!
"If it aint broke, don't fix it". Aboriginal people have a 40,000 year track record of looking after the land so the Ranger Program is an obvious way to continue that tradition. About time the original custodians of Australia were recognised and paid accordingly to do something that benefits all of humanity
This country needs to be cared for and preserved for future generations and who better than the people who have been caring for it for thousands of years.
The indigenous have always cared for and protected Australia, we need to keep them employed as caretakers because they know Australia better than anyone else, there would be no better Ranger. Australians that are here now, could learn so much from the original owners of this land.
This is a moral issue of giving respect where it is due. If we had listened and learnt instead of not then we would have learnt so much from our Aboriginal brothers and sisters. I am a boat person who came from across the seas and love this country and it's people. Give respect where respect is due. It's time to give back.
I saw this story on the Project and immediately thought what a perfect way to marry people and country together to produce real benefits that solve not just humanitarian crises but environmental as well! Government support should definitely continue
To keep verbal knowledge passing through to all generations. Local indigenous people understand country better than anyone else. Job opportunities & pride in our culture. Stop kids leaving the bush for town life, drugs/alcohol & unemployment.
Our Indigenous people are the experts and custodians of the land. Land is their spirit and provider; they its protector. They are the richer for living two cultures - one sacred, organic, Indigenous; the other a Western, multicultural life.
Indigenous Australian Rangers are thought from an early age how to understand the land and the climate changes and how best to apply those knowledge for the good of Australia.
Health comes from country. When Indigenous peoples are caring for their country they regain their place in society. Governments MUST listen to how Indigenous people want to live on and care for country. LISTEN WITH OPEN HEARTS AND MINDS.
The Original Keepers of the Land are the BEST ones to be taking care of the land now. Nobody knows the land as well as they do so who better to take care of it.
I think this is a great program that has so many reasons for being such a positive impact for our indigenous people and our country. We need as much support as possible.
The First Australians caring for their land can teach all Australians. Such an ancient culture should be allowed to thrive and prosper for the benefit of all people. Respect for our land and our ancestors must take a modern form in a strong society.
Think about it... if sustainable, long-term commitment to Aboriginal ranger programs were implemented all over the nation we'd see less bush fires, less country being diminished and un-cared for and I'd bet that we'd have nourished land and a lot more natural resources being produced, which means healthy lifestyles, healthy choices, naturally produced. Not to mention we'd have more blackfulla's in employment, which leads to independence (financially, emotionally, physically), from that we will have a sense of pride and ownership back of what we know best - our families, our communities and of course being care takers of the homelands of generations and generations before us
I was born in Australia and believe that the gatekeepers to our land are the ones that truly care about it. Using Indigenous person's knowledge and expertise to protect and care for Australia is necessary for it's future generations. This is their spiritual land, they know it like the back of their hand, they hear it's heartbeat and know instinctively how to care and nurture it.
their country, their heritage, their knowledge
We live in the Anthropocene- we must learn to live with our landscapes or risk not living at all. Indigenous people understand the intertwined nature of people and the land, and their traditional cultural practices create coexistence with Australia.
Benefits the environment and our indigenous communities. Every area in Australia that has these programs ahows considerable benefits to both. Please support.
Indigenous rangers would have a deep understanding of the land and living creatures on it that needs to be shared and kept alive for all of us.
Caring for Country - important for livelihoods, the environment and the soul of the land.
It's the right thing to do with the rightful owners of the land taking care of their own as they know how to do it best.
Who better to teach us all about this country than the original people? Aboriginal Rangers talking about culture and country it's the real thing, ridgy didge - sharing Culture, Understanding Country, Working for country . Employ Indig - Let's do it.
Aboriginal language and culture, with an unbroken connection to country, is very precious. It enriches all Australians. Ranger jobs are important way for Aboriginal people to preserve traditional knowledge participating in the wider economy. It's a double win!
If I can't help support first nation people to reconnect with the land of Australia, then something that is truly unique to our culture, our land, our heritage will be lost for ever more. Cherish what we have. #whatisaustralia
These projects and Rangers are essential . Support for them is essential to carry forth historical truth and acknowledgement.
For 60,000 years Indigenous peoples have lived in harmony with the land and all life on it in a sustainable way. It is essential to the well being of this country (not just humans) that Indigenous ecological knowledge leads the way into the future.
We are unable to turn back the clock when the 1st European/white fella's came to this Gorgeous Country, creating much hardships, devastation and destruction.. BUT we can make a positive change in real time now by supporting our land's traditional people to preserve, protect, educate and ensure our country maintains and preserves it's beauty, eco-system, wildlife, customs and right's! In these right hands we can ensure the clock tick's for a brighter here and now and for our future! much love, support and respect xxx
When I encounter rangers on K'Gari (Fraser Island) I am grateful for their presence - but when the rangers are indigenous - especially if they are Butchella, I feel honoured to meet and speak with them. More of this please, not less.
Having lived in the Territory for almost a decade, I have seen the incredible impact that ranger programs have had on the aspirations of communities and in particular, younger generations.
Having just completed a review of Indigenous carbon projects, I can see that solid ranger teams are foundational to connecting with traditional owners and country and also to building environmental businesses such as carbon projects.
I fully support Indigenous rangers for our country. It makes sense that people who are connected to the land become paid carers of that land. I believe we would all benefit from the increased representation of more Indigenous rangers working throughout Australia.
Our country needs management to keep fire, feral animals and weeds under control, and to protect our precious plants and animals. I think traditional owners are the best people for the job.
Yindyamarra bala Yambuwan. (Respect is everything) Rangers have respect for their country and culture.
Having seen both the Indigenous Ranger and Protected Area firsthand the benefits range far wider then environmental and employment outcomes - they spill over into health, educational and social benefits. Strong role models provide strong direction for the wider community. A truly holistic program. We need more of this kind of thing.
Our land needs to be cared for and our first Australians are the natural custodians of this great continent. This is a win-win on so many levels it's amazing our governments are questioning the necessity of such a program.
I think it make sense to have Indigenous Rangers. They have great wealth of knowledge and are the perfect choice for the best way to manage the land. It also creates role models amongst the indigenous communities and encourages and inspires the younger generation. It's a win, win situation all round.
There must be greater crowd funding contribution (read budget), backed by politicians and the public, to Ranger lead protection of our unique Australian wild lands. Rangers who properly understand the complexities of sustaining these places should be the continuing paid custodians.
Country needs people - indigenous rangers help stem the tide of extinctions caused by habitat loss and feral animals. People need country - re-connecting with country helps build resilience in regional & remote communities.
Because this land belongs to the indigenous people and if I trust it to anyone to look after it it would be those people who understand and feel it.
We need to create economic parity for indigenous people, this is a start but we need employment opportunities nationally !!
It's work that has great value and who better to do it than people born of this land and truly understand the depths of care that can be achieved.
While travelling recently through Tjoritja country in Central Australia, it was so good to see Aboriginal rangers caring for their land and sharing knowledge about these unique and beautiful environments
Aboriginal people have been caring for country for tens of thousands of years. They are probably more qualified than anyone to keep doing so...
As a white, urban living Australian, I feel incredibly lucky that the indigenous caretakers of this country have the knowledge about how to look after it. And that, despite the horrific violence and injustices perpetrated on them by colonisation, they are generous enough to still welcome people of all backgrounds and heritages to their land. I fully support this wonderful program and hope it is around for a long, long time,
The traditional owners of this land, their connection to it and respect for it, make them the most qualified and passionate people for the job. I fully support Indigenous Rangers
Having Indigenous Rangers is not only a great way for them to keep connection with the land it is a golden opportunity to share knowledge, respect and love of the land with everyone
The world is hurting big time and the world needs love and respect if it is to heal. I support all those worldwide whose only motivation is compassion for our planet, it's people's, it's animals and its plant life. Greedy governments, big business and apathetic people are destroying our home and we need more ecological warriors and we need them now
It is their land and if this work gives meaning to their lives and helps the children then it can only be good.
Indigenous People know more about this land than white people. They treat it with love and respect, know the way to manage it and will not stuff it up like we whities have for hundreds of years. More Indigenous Rangers please.
Went on a tour in NT with indigenous rangers. They were terrific. So knowledgable and so proud to share what they knew. Who better but the traditional owners? It adds such authenticity and their pride shines through.
The true keepers of Mother Earth know there job let's help them look after her 🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎💙💙💙💙
They are PEOPLE who love their land.
Aboriginal people know more about this land than anybody else don't you think and some people need to listen to them. History tends to repeat its self when we havern't learned the lessons from the past
country gets lonely without the support and care of its people who understand her language and feeling spaces...this caring for country is a responsibility and without the knowledge base of custodianship Australia will die a long sad death....so we can't let this happen the mother needs care loving and the Rangers know how to do just this.....bring it on ..go people...xx
Authentic role modelling for young indigenous Australians.
Australia has wonderful national parks that everyone values. But the great work of indigenous rangers is the backbone of the care for country and their workshops educate visitors in some of the ancient knowledge and understandings which they willingly share.
Aborigines have had a reverence for the land for thousands of years, a quality that sets Aborigines above the rest of Australian society, there is no greater sacred trust then the stewardship of the land, if it cannot sustain us we perish, there are no others more qualified then the Aborigines .
I believe the aboriginal people have a right to a good life ..they are the first Australians..
It is my opinion that the Australian Aboriginal People are naturals at preservation of our countrys wilderness and environment and as such are VERY interested in results for the betterment of the land.
Our country will be in the best hands possible - those to whom the country really belongs. I wish you every success.
Who better to care for the land and its flora and fauna than Aboriginal rangers? They will give the land the care it needs and get back the respect and sense of belonging they have had taken from them.
We have so much to learn from Aboriginal people 🙏I hope it's not to late
We need them Rangers to take care of the land and preserve the flora and fauna for future generations of australians.
There is no one better to be able to understand the land & Protected Indigenous Areas than The Aboriginal Peoples. I fully support Indigenous Rangers & Indigenous Protected Areas. It makes perfect sense, our Indigenous Peoples know their land.
Who could possibly be more qualified than the Indigenous people who have lovingly nurtured this precious land for eons?
IT JUST MAKES SENSE!
Indigenous rangers and Indigenous Protected Areas are the perfect way to protect nature in the outback, and they support people to be healthy and happy and have meaningful work. It's a no brainer!
I totally support this as Who better to take care of the land than those who have successfully cared for it for over 60,000 years...It only took us white people to nearly decimate it in 200 years...The facts speak and show the logic
In 2008, I was fortunate enough to have a wonderful holiday to Darwin, Kakadu and the Tiwi Islands. One of the outstanding highlights was the amazing knowledge, expertise and professional ability of those indigenous guides. They were outstanding and I learnt so much from them. As the natural people who respect & know how to manage the land, it's imperative that they should be the only ones to do so.
"I believe that knowledge and The Truth has given me a choice and my choice, is to support and believe in all you are doing!" Thank you
This land is the home to the oldest culture known and still in existence... There is so much us new inhabitants can learn from these people so do it and learn to understand the culture - you will be wiser for the experience.
I hope that our children and future adults benefit from the knowledge they can gain from our indigenous Rangers. We can best learn from the most capable custodians of this beautiful land and coast.
Whilst travelling the Flinders Ranges in South Australia, my husband and I were fortunate enough to meet and be informed and spend time with the Ranger who was an Indigineous Australian of Aboriginal descent. He was doing a great job. Aboriginals managed this country for 40,000 plus years. White people are destroying it in 250 years.
This program offers benefit to all Australians. It provides employment to Indigenous people in a field they are experienced in and passionate about. And they can help educate non-indigenous people about how to preserve and protect our unique and wonderful land and creatures that inhabit it.
Connection to land and people is essential for a healthy community which prides itself on its ability to manage its own affairs
This is so important to our land and our people. We need to foster this relationship and appreciate its value across so many levels.
Long term thinking required that focuses on everyone prospering, win / win solutions. Whatever has the greatest positive effect on the whole is the answer
I support indigenous rangers and indigenous protectors of Country because it is their heritage and their Dreaming. I back them all the way.
Indigenous rangers are important not only for the land, the fauna and flora, but they are vital for communities, especially children, to see that the land is worth caring for and their people hold worthwhile jobs. The benefits all round are immeasurable.
There should be more indigenous Rangers!
An invaluable understanding and insiders persecective of the ecological world must be retained in contemporary land and resource management. Indigenous knowledges are far too important to be lost
Indigenous Rangers belong to this country - they are the BEST people for the job. What a beautiful example they are setting for the little ones.
To have indigenous rangers caring for country gives me hope that at least some of our nation is in the right hands. Supporting indigenous rangers is caring for our heart and soul and will make us all better off. I can't think of a better use of resources than this.
I support indigenous rangers
Remote jobs are scarce. Country needs care and our borders security. What better way than employ Rangers to do this work. Win win in my book
It's only right that we have indigenous rangers caring for what is their land that they so generously share with all of us.
I lived in the Flinders Ranges and firmly believe no one else is more qualified than the indigenous rangers to share their knowledge of their country
It is imperative that indigenous people be given work and responsibility to protect their lands and it is their birthright. I have spent time with indigenous rangers on a holiday in Tiwi Islands and it was fantastic and an unforgettable experience.
If we really value these unique environments - and we do! - then it's a 'no-brainer': we need our indigenous peoples who are connected to the land, working there to care for it so that we can all continue to appreciate and responsibly share the beauty of Australia.
Indigenous people have been safeguarding this land for 60,000 years without destroying it. Now more than ever we need their care and protection so people of all backgrounds are able to live here.
It makes sense that the people who know the Land and is part of the Land are the people to be the Rangers of the Land - this is a no brainer
Indigenous people are the best qualified at looking after the land, they have been doing it for thousands of years. It is in their blood, their spirit and their passion. The Land is their Life. Thank goodness there is an Indigenous Rangers program so that First Nations People can continue to feel proud about taking care of what is theirs and ours. Well done!
With such a long history and wealth of knowledge of country there's no one more appropriate than indigenous rangers to know what needs to be done
I support indigenous rangers for the very reason that the traditional owners understand the importance of caring for our Earth and it's wildlife. Through culture, they have a deep connection to place and this also provides some wonderful role models for generations to come. Please support this worthy cause.
Our Indigenous People know more about this country of ours than anyone else...they should be in charge of so much of what is done to the land.
I trust the traditional owners of the land to look after our country better than the government who lets it be bled dry by industry. This is highly valuable, highly respectable work and it is wonderful to find an occupation that we actually need filling and can be done so perfectly by a group of people who usually miss out when the jobs are handed out. This is a perfect match in so many ways, and you know our country is in good hands!
Indigenous have such an intimate and respectful relationship with the land. Their very identity and wellbeing is encompassed within that so caring for it as at the core of who they are. White Australia has demonstrated we are a lot more selfish and much less caring when it comes to country - land degradation, mining, reef destruction, water and air pollution, species endangerment and extinction to name but a few.
There are no other people more qualified to look after our country than Indigenous people who have generations of expertise dating back 40-60,000 years. Australia needs more Indigenous rangers and Indigenous Protected Areas to ensure our beautiful country is maintained and protected from the likes of miners and multinational corporations who take and destroy for no other purpose but to make profits. Governments need to stop thinking short-term with their neo-liberal policies and instead think long-term. As our world continues to be impacted by climate change we need to advocate for ecological justice.
This country belongs to the Aboriginal people and Aboriginal people belong to this country. Simple. We need more Indigenous rangers !
Indigenous rangers on traditional lands are truly the way forward if we are to protect the land that gives all of us life. Their knowledge and skills are awesome, and they can care for the land in a way that we white fellows can't.
This just makes sense! Meaningful work for people with meaningful connections.
My childhood was spent on the land and the only way to save this country for future generations is to employ people who have an affinity, love and connection with the flora and fauna of Australia and to protect it from politicians that want to use outback Australia for a dumping graveyard for nuclear waste for financial gain!!
Ngara from an Anglo in Queensland! All land that humans coexist on needs managing. Whether you're a gardener, a farmer or an Indigenous person on Country, we know connection and understanding is needed to manage our land well. Those connections and knowledge takes time, and Indigenous Aussies have had 50,000 years or more to know well what is required. I value the Rangers highly because I've worked with Indigenous people and I've been on Country, and they're the best people for the job. This is Aboriginal country, but it needs help, and they're the people to do it.
We need our indigenous Rangers, they know the land and the animals, they always have and always will know the land, I'm incredibly proud of our indigenous people, incredibly proud of our first people.
I support Indigenous Rangers because i believe they are the True Leaders of a Land we all share and we could learn so much if we whities just got over our self important delusions. It's Time!!!! I Stand With my Indigenous Elders with love compassion and humility. :)
Indigenous rangers are the best qualified to take care of the land. We need more of them
It is a huge relief to me to know that these lands are in the hands of the people who know how to care for it, honour it and preserve it for the future. It is healing the Spirit of the land and the Spirit of the original peoples. The entire country needs rangers like this.
I spent quite a long time in the Flinders Ranges, where I met a ranger from the Andnamatya ( please forgive my spelling I've forgotten how to spell ) Gill was his name and I had a bit to do with the people from there. I can't speak highly enough about the job they were doing .they were also among the nicest people I have ever met. I've never understood why we don't learn more about "culture" ,especially in the schools. Regards Margaret.
It makes perfect sense to me that Australia's first people are protecting and managing their land! What's not clear?
Nobody understands this country like its first people. The land and its people both benefit from the ranger program.
Look after country and country will look after you. Indigenous rangers are the best qualified because they have a vested interest for there mission to succeed
Indigenous rangers have a special relationship with the land and novel ways of managing it, based on being the oldest continuous culture!
The indigenous people have been conserving our great land for thousands of years. They understand it better than anyone because the land is part of their souls. The young see their elders' love for the land and this encourages in them a sense of purpose.
I look at what is around me in this beautiful precious place where i reside and honour and respect the original landowners for the sacrifices and turmoil they endured due to our settlement. What better way to continue this honour and respect by handing back this right to the original landowners - we europeans are certainly not doing a great job of it.
Nobody understands this country like its first people. The land and its people all benefit from the ranger program.
Against all odds, and in spite of every obstacle, these brilliant rangers are helping to heal a big scar on the land and in our hearts. You give me hope that not all is lost, that there is still so much to fight for. Thank you for your strength and devotion to Country.
Indigenous Rangers are the best people for the job of looking after the land as they have grown up in the areas and will know the best way to protect it. These rangers will have more common sense than a person who goes to college to become a ranger or an environmentalist. Good luck to them all.
Of course we need Indigenous rangers on Indigenous land. They are the custodians from a line of at least 50,000 years. No need for further explanation.
You do great work caring for our land.
When you care about something or someone, I mean really care, you look after it or them. Indigenous people of Australia are people of the land who look after the land for the land looks after them. They will care the they will protect it is their job.
Indigenous Rangers working on their country protecting their country understanding their country. There is no one better they are the true natural custodians of the land They have been here for hundreds of thousands of years. We must respect them and give them back 100% ownership & responsibilty for their land
It is best if indigenous rangers are employed to take care of land/water portions set aside for special reasons under the banner of 'indigenous protected areas' because there is already a connection with the place based on the rangers being from that place and hence there is a duty of care and stewardship relationships are already established in relation to doing this work well.
Our beautiful land and all that it contains needs to be cared for by it's custodians, the indigenous australians.
Australia belongs to our Indigenous People. They have been stewards of this land for thousands of year. It makes sense that this great land is still in their care.
Why do I support this initiative? The goals stated and outcomes already achieved are more than a lot of non-indigenous initiatives have achieved. This is good for all Australians. A great initiative. Protecting our precious environment, supporting cultural strength, creating jobs for people to support their families, opening up new opportunities for men and women, young and old, and creating genuine and positive partnerships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. Indigenous rangers and Indigenous Protected Areas are a contemporary expression of the unbroken and ancient connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to this continent.
They are the first nation people who have the knowledge and understand the importance of the stewardship of the land, they strive to protect the land conserving indigenous flora and fauna from urban development ensuring the land remains as nature intended to be enjoyed by future generations.
Indigenous Australians have been the longstanding custodians and carers of this land. The role of a Ranger is one of extreme importance and deservedly trusted to the Indigenous peoples. The Rangers have the most remarkable workplace of them all
When you read the literature on Indigenous Protected Areas and compare these areas to non-protected areas, you fully understand and appreciate the great work being done by Indigenous Rangers on Country, to ensure Australia has healthy ecosystems for the future. The comparative maps tell the story. It is blatantly obvious. Read 'People on Country: Vital Landscapes, Indigenous Futures' edited by Jon Altman and Sean Kerins. Healthy Country means healthy Australians.
When someone loves the land in that special way, they are the ones to look after it, tend it and keep it safe.
These custodians have a strong connection to the earth that we need to keep alive. They can teach us all to be more grateful for the planet we live on. With specific specialised knowledge of the environment, their jobs must be celebrated. Thank you for what you do.
Indigenous Rangers love and respect their land and waterways and should be cared for by those who best understand it.
Not only are these areas important for our first peoples culture and identity but they are also important for the wider community at large and Indigenous Rangers are helping to conserve fast disappearing natural environments in Australia
I am convinced that the Indigenous Rangers Program is a win win for all of us. It provides sustainable jobs that reflect Indigenous People's spirit and skills. It is not an expensive policy, it is a sensible investment. It is good for our country. It is good for our environment. It is good for our communities and families. Every added Ranger position is a plus ! More please !!
More power and support to these many great Australian men and women who are passionate about caring, and protecting our Country with its fragile environment. I love Australia, and they love it more than me and deserve all the support that we can give them to help to repair the many ears of abuse, neglect and exploitation that we have heaped upon this land.
How arrogant of us 'whites' to assume we can tell the true guardians what to do and how to run their lives!
It's their land.
Our Australian Aboriginal people know country in a way no one else does or can. Their knowledge is unique, ecologically viable and conserving, and soul is in it. I think it is wonderful.
It's a no brainer. It's their land and they know how to protect it.
Our native Australians know this land better than anyone, & our environment NEEDS protecting. We NEED indigenous Rangers, & lots of them.
When we visit Aboriginal lands we are in awe of the beauty and historical significance of the country and expect to meet and hear the stories from the original custodians who have the best knowledge and ways of presenting it to visitors. Aboriginal Rangers, taking care of their own country, makes sense and will ensure continuity for the future, in terms of employment and protection of the country.
Indigenous people looked after their country for thousands of years. They know better than anyone what it needs.
The indigenous people understand the land and its diverse wildlife more than any others and working as rangers they will protect it for future generations and vitally provide role models for the next generation
I do support the cause because they are the care takers of this land.
Greed and overseas investors are slowly destroying this beautiful country. I believe Indigenous Australians have the natural skills and feel for the land like no other and they can make things right. I believe our rainfall is depleting rainfall is due to clearing of land for grazing and mining. I would love to see more politicians comment and back this project as I know Indigenous Australians will make a positive difference for our country.
We keep saying we want to help the Aboriginal community, encourage them to gain an education and employment, be inspired, so put into actions the words you speak. There's no one better to look after the land than the Aboriginal people. Gives them pride of heritage. Gives them purpose and meaning. Gives them sense of family and belonging in a way our society fails at. They're not outcasts or second rate citizens. They are a resourceful and knowledgable people who are valuable to this country and have lots to teach us about it if they're not hindered from their rights.
It should be obvious to anyone that Indigenous People must be employed in these areas. Who else has such a great connection and understanding of the land and it's flora and fauna, plus it's history.
Because they want to care for this land. Not destroy it like others. Also they are a great role model for indigenous kids who a lot of the time do not have this. Let they do their work as they do it better and know what they can teach all of us.
In 2009 I did a tourist trip, near Yirrkala N.T.clearing ghost nets of beaches. We worked alongside the indigenous rangers. It is an excellent way of giving vital ,meaningful work to the traditional landowners.
It's a brilliant initiative which has a wide range of benefits and flow-on effects - from protecting and nurturing our unique Australian flora, fauna and landscape, to empowering indigenous mob and culture
I support indigenous rangers because they have a natural connection to the land, plants, water, the life that survives of these resources. They have the knowledge to pass to younger generations, and keep the indigenous culture alive. It's common sense to have indigenous people/s in these roles as who knows our country like us, it's our playground, our backyard, we naturally are connected ⚫🌝🔴
I support indigenous rangers in protected areas because this is work that they clearly love doing and feel totally connected to. The rangers are the best people to build knowledge and understanding of these areas and that will feed into refining strategies for caring for this land, that are actually effective. A powerful knowledge base can be developed from people who know what they're doing and really love what they're doing.
As a white Australian there is nothing more uplifting than seeing Indigenous youth being empowered to meld the modern techniques of land and cultural management with the knowledge of country that has been practiced for thousands of years. We have a unique opportunity to preserve an ancient culture and provide meaningful employment for indigenous individuals of all ages that draws on the best of both indigenous and western knowledge. It would be my hope that through this interaction of two cultures we achieve true reconcilliation.
Indigenous Rangers view their country with different eyes. They see Potential but without destruction and exploitation. Australia needs these people to preserve our heritage.
Country deserves our love, understanding and respect. If our land is sick, we are sick. Indigenous Rangers are doing some of the most meaningful work in our beautiful homeland.
It simply makes sense! For most indigenous people, identity is strongly linked to the land. Having indigenous rangers and indigenous protected areas has numerous benefits: It helps younger generations reconnect with their heritage, it provides employment where it is needed, it keeps sensitive areas cherished and protected.
Because they are essential to the land and people, with out you I wouldn't know who to ask permission to enter your land's. You are visible to all travelers, making sure visitors obey the law in your area.
No one has a greater understanding of, or feel for, a balanced environment than aboriginal people. Formalizing their pact with the land is one way to make good what has been taken away from them.
This program provides opportunities for indigenous Australians to continue to care for country as they have for millennia. The program ensures real jobs in stewardship of land for future generations of all Australians. For God's sake, get behind it.
Being an Indigenous Ranger is so sensible. These people have a genuine love of their Country. They are truly committed to the role & do not worship the almighty dollar, as many other cultures do.
Our company is in exploration in the Kimberley. We welcome and need strong local communities, we support anything that help to inspire and support children to grow and be happy. With the shockingly high suicide rate in the Kimberley anything that could possibly help address this heartbreaking situation should be given priority. I fully support indigenous rangers.
In my opinion this land belongs to indigenous people. Their knowledge is invaluable, dream time stories amazing and their love for this country to be envied.
The indigenous people are and have been the custodians of the land for thousands and thousands of years. It is a sacred tradition born of respect and understanding. Australia needs these indigenous rangers, the true custodians now more than ever. Their vast skills and knowledge of the land are crucial to preserving our unique wildlife and flora.
Indigenous Rangers -- a perfect match in protecting the land and empowering indigenous people.
Working in rural and remote areas I understand the importance of opportunities for people to stay in their communities and lead and educate their people. They understand their land and people - they know what is needed - we need to listen and assist in anyway we can. I was given great respect and love when I worked in the North West Qld. Thank you to all my murrie family.
When I visited the Kimberley Area I was delighted to hear the stories and the knowledge that the aboriginal guides had ,Fabulous.
As an immigrant I know how very lucky I am to live in this beautiful land, which always was and always will be Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander country. If land and people are one then Indigenous rangers are essential.
Indiginous Australians were here 50,000 years before invasion. They could drink from any river & not get sick. Now in the last 200 we have poisoned the water. No longer can you drink from just any river. The aboriginal people are the rightful care takers of this land& should be allowed that opportunity to do so because it will benefit us all& your great grand children.
Our ancient land has always had Indigenous people to look after it. We must maintain this - it's our heritage, their right.
When I visit anyplace I want to be guided and informed by those with the best information and the deepest knowledge and appreciation. Does this NECESSARILY mean an indigenous ranger is required? Perhaps, perhaps not.... but the EXPERIENCE the customer or visitor takes away with them to share with the world is ALWAYS better when their guide can offer the authenticity of ''the real thing''.
Indigenous Australians understand and know this countries magnificent and fragile landscape better than anyone, so of course they are the ones who should be the custodians of the land, and educate future generations to do the same.
The rangers and the land are one entity. No one knows better how to care for that land than they do. Support the ranger program for both them and future generations, black and white.
I don't think there should be any question that there should be as many indigenous rangers as possible. You want a diverse workforce capable of looking after this land and indigenous people who come from those areas have traditional connections that others don't have. They have a stake, a vested interest. Plus it's also clear that people need to be gainfully employed to be independent. I'm all for appropriate training and opportunities to enable more indigenous rangers. I think it could be a significant selling point, also, for attracting international tourists - because local (indigenous) knowledge is deep.
When do “so called leader” realise that investing in peoples’ education can and will reduce social security payments, decrease social problems and most important, decrease suicide. Support the people of the country so the can stay + work where they love to stay + work.
I have had the great privilege of been shown areas by indigenous Rangers and I think their knowledge and love taught me much of the wonderful places our country has and the stories that belong to it
It is a great work and so important to have more Indigenous Rangers and more areas protected.
I am honoured to live on Ngunnawal and Darug country sustained and loved by the First People for 40,000 years - I trust their care, and want to always live on Aboriginal land, given back to the First People in any way possible: from treaty to ranger jobs, to returning country to its rightful owners. Land is healthiest in the hands of its First People, passing on the knowledge of country and care to all.
It makes sense to have the people with the most education, experience and knowledge doing this job. 40 000+ years is hard to beat!
Think this is a wonderful program for indigenous peoples but also highly significant for non indigenous peoples as well: it's my intention as a someone living on and loving land, that I learn from indigenous people, including cold fire management.
The indigenous people have an affinity with the land that is as old as time; It makes sense that they are able to use their ability to care for the land now. They must be valued and respected for the knowledge they can share.
After living on this continent sustainably for some 50000 year's it would be fool hardy for non-indigenous Australia not to want Indigenous rangers. Not only for the health and well being of Indigenous communities and people but also for the country itself and to preserve Indigenous history.
They are providing a great contribution for all Australians and a good example to indigenous youth
I support the rangers for what they do and for what they teach us. We need to remember that we don't own the land but we belong to it.
Indigenous peoples have looked after and cared for this land for over 40,000 years and have a deep connection with it. What better way to look after this magnificent asset than the first Australians. We should all stand proud next to our indigenous brothers and support them
If we get only one thing right, be it that we allow people to care for and work on country!
Indigenous Australian peoples are the traditional custodians of this land since at least 40.000 years. It is thanks to them that Australia still enjoys one of the most pristine, abundant and biodiverse environment on the planet. Indigenous culture encompasses a unique holistic knowledge of the land and how to care for it in a sustainable manner. Indigenous Australian peoples have a right to pursue their roles as primary caretakers of their traditional lands. Their connection to land is part of their identity and at the core of their spiritual beliefs and culture. Therefore not only are Aboriginal peoples the most qualified, skilled and knowledgeable to look after the land and its wildlife, acknowledging this by maintaining their employment as rangers is also meaningful from a socio-economic point of view, and supports their social and emotional wellbeing.
It is a positive and great idea for both the people involved and the country. It must be supported
There is, No one more Qualified, To look After, The Land. Than The Very People Who Own It, and Have ALWAYS Cared For it!!
This program makes sense. The government needs to act on this.
Indigenous people are the natural custodians of the land. For them, it is more than a one dimensional piece of dirt. It is an all embracing multi dimensional culture covering every aspect of life, past, present and future.
I think the plan is the best way of protecting and utilizing the land and country since the Dutch crashed a few ships on the western shores of the continent a few centuries ago. I applaud the efforts and the rationale. Well done!
Indigenous rangers have knowledge of their country that we don't. They how to care for it & they provide very necessary role models for young people. The program is proving very successful & worthwhile. It would be a great loss to our country & society if it were to be curtailed in any way.
Only courageous people like Indigenous Rangers have a true knowledge of and connection with the land. Politicians and Corporate CEO's must listen and work with and learn from these Rangers
We came thinking we knew better than Aboriginal people, but we ruined them and their land. Now we have ecological disasters and climate change. It is not too late to learn what's really best from the Aborigines we have silenced. That is why we need Aboriginal rangers. They connect with country. We don't know how.
Because it's a no brainer. It's just an obvious fit.
as the indigenous people have had thousand of years experience in looking after the land so they should be rangers.
On Sunday, 18th September, my husband Merv and I had the very great pleasure to take two American visitors Hoang and Vivian Ngofrom San Diego, to the Mossman Gorge National Park in Far North Queensland. We were very, very impressed to see the indigenous people caring for this Park - quite a difference to our visits in 1983 and 2011, and working in the Cafeteria, Gift Shop and Admissions Office. As well we took a grea tinterest in the Training facility that is provided here and also noticed that care and pride in the local community as we commuted up to the Gorge Entrance. We took the time to compliment some of the workers who have been working here since given the opportunity only a few short years ago. It is about time we recognise these people are a very important part of our heritage and history so that our youngest citizens gain a sense of pride and love for our great country.
Ranger programs and IPAs make a vital contribution to maintaining knowledge and connection to country, upholding the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to live on and care for their homelands, and sustaining Australia's unique ecosystems.
This country needs so many more Indigenous Rangers working on the land. They love the land and know how to care for the land and protect it, not like the greedy mining and CSG companies, who don't care how much destruction they cause in the name of the almighty dollar.
Let the people who want to live in the bush protect and care for it now and in the future. Provide substantial resources for them to do so! Give them high wages for their work to demonstrate to others the worth of what they do....
I believe that they are necessary to take care of the country that they love amd most Australians for that matter.
Because it is an extremely successful and worthwhile project and occupation. Don't ruin it Malcolm, you fool!
Our Indigenous people have a natural affinity and connection to this land. We have an appalling, ignorant, hidden and shameful record of European settlement on it. Our first step in facing our past, and redressing gross moral wrong, is to make sure our Indigenous people are restored, wherever possible, to their connection to land that was stolen from them. This is work that is necessary, and that they will excel at, but It may also be the groundwork for a new beginning. and an Australia we can be proud of
Indigenous rangers and indigenous protected areas are essential to the protection of country. I believe Indigenous people with connection to the land know best how to detect changes, protect species and landscape, and work with scientists to mitigate the effects of climate change. The knowledge benefits all of Australia and I hope the programme will be expanded and continue indefinitely.
Indigenous Rangers are not only essential for the wellbeing of Country, but they are important role models for the young people. With their invaluable work they maintain a healthy Country & teach their culture to those that follow.
Caring for country because we are part of country as Aboriginal people say is the right way towards sustainability. Having Aboriginal rangers is the best way to protect earth's natural resources; The rangers are excellent role models for young people to learn from and follow.
I have always been a supporter of indigenous rangers because I believe our first people have a connection that far surpasses anybody. They live and breath the land and I know God wants the best protection possible, so who are the best? Why our indigenous rangers of course. Bless you all. 💐💐
Children learn mostly by example,so, these rangers are powerful role models in their communities! They are already acutely underfunded and underestimated! Bless these inspiring rangers and all their good works...Shame on our government.
Indigenous rangers are natural carers of this land. It is part of them and so it makes perfect sense that they should be essentially involved in looking after it. Once went on trip to Ngarrindjeri lands which was just wonderful because of the indigenous ranger and his unique insight.
The power of the country binds its people and other living creatures together. What a great purpose it is to care for all of this.
I have been fortunate to have aboriginal guides to show me their country when I visited Uluru, Yellow waters at Jabiru and Nourlangie rock in Kakadu NP. I was very impressed with the unique knowledge they have of everything about their country and with the way they were happy to share it with us. Of course we need more aboriginal guides and rangers.
Because there is no one more equipped to care for our country, and because there is no country more equipped to care back for Indigenous peoples.
Let them keep doing the great job of looking after our Ancestors and our country.
Indigenous people have protected and cared for this land for more than 40000 years. Nobody is better qualified for the job.
They have the History of the Land embedded in their genes Who better to look after the nature of this great land
Everything is connected to the Universe! I support Human Rights 100 percent.
Indigenous rangers create a continuity of care with a gentle hand on the landscape that nurtures the earth, all the species and creates safe haven for the endurance of life on earth.
Our country needs people, proud Indigenous people, working on their land, connecting, educating, healing, for the wellbeing of all Australians. I support the vital work of the Indigenous Rangers program.
I support this because I want the traditional owners to be able to look after this country the way it should be looked after ,so I can enjoy it
I believe the Blue Mountains region in New South Wales also needs to be protected, not just for cultural reasons - but because Indigenus Rangers are also environmental protectors for future generations.
Because of their long and special connection to and deep knowledge of the land, indigenous rangers are able to care for their country to protect and preserve it for future generations. Furthermore, especially in remote areas indigenous people need to have important and worthwhile work to do to enable communities to withstand the challenges many of them face.
I am very grateful and indebted to the corps of Indigenous rangers who care for precious wilderness land, that would be otherwise taken over by environmental weeds and feral animals. The rangers protect and maintain the land for so it will be pristine for future generations. That's a hell of a job. Thanks.
We need the I put of the Indigenous rangers to teaching their knowledge of the land, to protect the environment, and for the benefit they provide to all the community. Don't lose this program
All of our Government initiatives promote merit based selection to find the " best person for the job ". Finally they've done it !!! We now have the best people taking care of their land.
It works! Leave it alone . . .
This nation needs Indigenous Rangers to protect the fragile land which is being abused by ignorant governments. The Rangers will ensure that future generations will have an environment left for them to appreciate.
Indigenous rangers are the strongest role models for indigenous kids - representing the value of work, pride in their culture with emphasis on connection to land.
I think it's all about empowerment. We can learn so much from our indigenous, who have so much ancient wisdom to share. If we could live like them, we would have a much healthier world and be much healthier people connected to our environment.
There could be no better people to look after the land than our First People
Australia's land belongs to Aboriginal people so it is imperative we look after and protect their land. They are the best people to carry out ranger protection to their own land.
All people thrive when they take ownership of their responsibilities. Looking after Country is the ultimate win-win.
This is good for all Australians. A great initiative; helping to protect our unique environment, supporting cultural identity and strength, creating jobs for people to support their families with opportunities for both men and women. This venture also builds positive partnerships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians with rangers who share their knowledge, love and respect for this land that we all love.
This land has and always will be the Indigenous people's land. They more than any people are first priority when it comes to the land and its care. They know the land and its history, their people have roamed it for millennia. Indigenous people have preference and knowledge that others aren't privy to. The more indigenous people employed to be rangers and care for the land the better for Australia, Indigenous people and all Australians.
The people who know the land best and love and respect it the most, are the best people to care for it.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have been looking after this country for millennia, finally we can pay a bit of back rent by acknowledging their skills and dedication with financial reward, as well as with respect and appreciation, thank you.
Common Sense should Prevail here. Let those who know the Land Care for the Land. And Preserve it as it should be. & Pass the Knowledge on to the Young, to Continue on for all to Admire & Enjoy the World's Oldest Land on Earth. I Support the True Care Taker's of Australia.
It is so good to hear of a program that is making a difference and enabling care of Country. Should be Australia wide.
The people who know the country are the best caretakers for that country. This program provides job opportunities for those who need them most and needs to continue into perpetuity
Well done men and women. You are all valuable role models to the younger generation. Get the Spirit back in to the land and our great country, it has been missing for too long now. . God Bless.
The outback is precious and while for many Australians it looks tough and hostile, it is fragile and needs care and love. the indigenous rangers are able to do that - for the benefit of land, native animals and all our people for posterity.
I support Indigenous rangers being employed because I believe in justice not wealth, this form of employment provides an added pathway to justice.
We need indigenous rangers to help repair the environmental degradation that has occurred since European settlement due to ignorance. All Australians have so much to learn about our unique environment. Who better to teach us? Indigenous health and spirituality is strongly linked to connection to country. Protecting our biodiversity through Indifgenous ranger program is a win for all.
Here in Botany Bay is the most important as in most communities our children grow on country they learn from there elders when they leave school there is no work for our children rather than be on the street or on welfare our children need to work on country it lifts there self esteem knowing that they become role models for future generations and make our elders and families proud
It's hard to explain the significance of Country to me as a Bundjalung woman. It is me, and I am it. It gives us a sense of place, a connection to Ancestors past and continuous. It is our stories. It is in our blood, our songlines that we sing and dance with. All of it, is for Land. For Country.
I've been travelling in WA for a year. I've loved seeing Traditional Owners working as Park Rangers. It's just a fabulous way for people to be on country doing a great job.
Connection to the land gives life that forms part of Indigenous Australians spirituality.
As the original owners of the land, who else has the deep understanding of how this land needs to be protected and cared for. Indigenous rangers can teach all of us how to respect and care for this wonderful country that we live in. The added benefit to the community of proud and respected indigenous people is incalculable.
I support more indigenous rangers and indigenous protected areas because they are trained and have a heritage of caring for the environment of Australia especially areas outside of populated areas such as cities and towns. The occupation of ranger is ideally suited to indigenous Australians and should be promoted and supported to provide status for first nations people and an opportunity to show their talent and knowledge which in turn will build respect from the rest of the community.
I want our environment protected because for too long it has has been exploited by mining companies. In an age of 'climate and envrionmental emergency' there is not one group of people better equiped and experienced to look after our land than the Idigenous Australians. Give Indigenous Australians the chance to do what they do best. They are a critical part of tommorows solutions.
I love this initiative because it works at every level - it nurtures local landscapes and communities as well as rehabilitating the national environment and influencing global attitudes
This land is their land, they know it, have been here for centuries before we came here so why not let them look after the land that they know and love. I am so proud to live in this country and am more than happy to see Aboriginal people be the ones to help us to help the land. Man has destroyed so much already so lets hope that these lovely people can restore and maintain the balance that this land needs.
This is the kind of work and commitment that the land is calling out for - not land clearing and more coal mines.
Indigenous rangers know the Aussie land better than anyone. Those are people from whom we all may learn.
Respected and healthy work.
I support Indigenous Rangers, because like all First Nations People Globally, they are very aware of the Science and Nature of the area they live in as they are truly close to the Earth, to the real environment in our Global Village.
"Australia needs the wisdom and knowledge that the Indigenous Rangers share and pour into Country - so as to defeat all the harmfulness being done, and to keep Country healthy.
Nobody knows the land better than Australia's indigenous people, they need to be out there sharing their knowledge and love of country to the rest of the world.
Because only the Aboriginal people really know the land .They have been in spiritual contact with it for centuries .You only have to look at the destruction we have done to it and the habitat.Am sorry for that.
Indigenous Australians have lived on the land for thousands of years and the knowledge has been handed down from generation to generation... We need to keep this going for many many more generations. A very proud people :)
Australia's natural environment faces so many threats ranging from climate change to feral animals. It's vital that it is well managed - who better to take on the task than Indigenous Rangers, those who care for their Country.
It's about society, environment and economy at local and national levels. It's about the life of the land and the life of people. Mr Turnbull said tell us what works. This works.
Nobody is better qualified than those first peoples for whom this land is in their hearts, minds, and blood. There is a innate committment there to do what is right and being a Ranger gives pride and honour to their cultural knowledge, their communities and their personal wellbeing in a way no mining hand-out/trade off ever can. This the the most appropriate future for first peoples especially in the the far-flung places but anywhere and everywhere where there are peoples who know their country. So little is known about Australia's unique biodiversity, here is a perfect match to meet the need for quality care, monitoring and knowledge to be merged with meaningful sustainable work and strong community modelling that expands all knowledge and allows for teaching, tourism, research etc to expand economic options for our first peoples. All Australians need this to happen for them. We need to learn about this relationship to country so decisions made will serve it now and in the future.
Australia needs indigenous Rangers - what better way could there be to look after our precious land? This is the best way to nurture self esteem and good mental health.
As someone who has great love of this country called Australia, it is my belief that indigenous rangers are definitely the most qualified people to take care of it. I would like to see all school children included in an Indigenous Environmental Education program so they grow up to love this wonderful country as much as I do.
Such important work in so many ways!
Who better to be custodians of this great complex land than the original inhabitants?
I have been in a group where an indigenous ranger talked about returning shearwaters - it was the most informative talk I have attended.
These are the best people to be rangers in their own land. They can show leadership to younger aboriginal people and help them grow to respect their culture.
It just makes sense.
Fantastic to hear from you guys doing the work you do. Far better than working in some filthy mine that only destroys what was once a wonderful country.
Because the Earth heals our wounds and we need it, when we are disconnected from country, everything begins to feel sore. PeopleNeedCountryToo.
It's just logical. Indigenous people have been caring for country for millennia.
I love the natural environment and value the work done by our Indigenous Rangers. They have the knowledge and the culture to ensure Australia's future.
Having indigenous rangers is a bit like having a safety net for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and an opportunity to guarantee all Australians benefit from their vast pool of knowledge
The indigenous ranger program is vital to ensure we have enough people, out there protecting the land and environment, who understand how it all works. They have been learning this work all their lives.
i am sure Indigenous Rangers will provide many new activities for saving us by maintaining diversity and sustainable interactions with our environments. They will do it better than we who came much later. I think supporting more indigenous rangers will start reinforcing cycles of improvement that our environments need badly.
it is there land they know it better than any one else
My experience at Uluru was enhanced by the information and contact with indigenous Rangers. I expect the many tourists who visit Australia find the experience enriched by indigenous Rangers. We can't have to many. Great work.
Supporting indigenous Rangers program supports all that is truly important : cultural knowledge. Valuing knowledgeable men and women . Effective conservation of country.. The amazing country we all all home. Promoting biodiversity. Valuable work. And generating conservation and economic pathways Keep it up country needs people.
Growing up in a remote community I saw Aboriginal police trackers become policemen, nurses' aides becoming nurses, teachers' aides becoming teachers but most of all I saw the love of the community for the land, the pride taken in handing down knowledge of hunting, fishing, tracking and how to look after the country we lived in. I met aboriginal rangers and could see what the job meant to them. It was great for us to hear what had been handed down over centuries, knowledge of the land and our place in it.
The original custodians of this land are the best people to continue this work
Indigenous peoples have a unique understanding of the landscape which they have travelled over and lived in for many thousands of years. We would be foolish to ignore their knowledge and skills and I for one would be very grateful to them for offering to work as rangers in what are often difficult conditions
A wonderful program for our people and our country and must continue.
Aboriginal people have a connection to the land that most white people do not. This should be supported and respected.
I feel that indigenous people understand our land best. They know the use of fire, water plants and animals. They have a vast knowledge of all these things. Until other nationalities arrived our land was in excellent condition . Indigenous people have so much great knowledge to provide.they need more power and access to look after our land . Properly and for the leaders in government to listen to informed indigenous people on the maintenance of our country for us all
How empowering must it be to be responsible for the preservation of your own country!
We have to look after the land...
I support Indigenous Rangers as they have an intimate relationship with this land & are the best caretakers for the future preservation of our country.
I support Aboriginal Rangers as they are the most qualified to care for this beautiful country. Hopefully they can also teach the youth so their knowledge and connection with the environment stays strong. I have much gratitude for their great work and help.
I support indigenous people as rangers because I feel they have a special connection to the land and will do their best to love and care for it and our wildlife.
It just makes sense.
Because their ancestors and descendants have lived and breathed this beautiful land of ours a LOT longer than us whose ancestors only arrived just over 225 years ago, with their English and mixed European ideas on how this country should be cared for. It is now time to let people who Know this country be employed to look after and care for it in Perpetuity.
indigenous rangers know their country, and can give an authentic interpretation of that country to share to us so we can learn
Having more Indigenous rangers makes complete sense. It is important to protect Country, to build pride and purpose, to give hope to young people, to help teach us about the land, culture and people.
People from country being enabled to look after it? How can this not make perfect sense? I vote for training and financial support to give people pride in themselves and their community and help them to protect the countryside for all Australians.
It's vitally important for the land, the culture and employment in these places to keep indigenous rangers on country. If we don't understand that yet in Australia, we're deaf, blind and dumbed down.
At last an initiative that provides gainful and meaningful employment for our first people without negative or tokenistic overtones. They are the only ones qualified to care for this land. We can learn a lot from them. Totally supporting this.
When we came to your country,as immigrants it was Australia Day 1980, your people stood on the banks at Botany Bay ,burning eucalyptus and bearing your flag.in my young years we enjoyed stories from many mobs. From the darrawal people. I have had the luxury to travel since then into parts of this country that has as equally frighted me as inspired me . But one thing I do know is that what little of your land is left, even though its vast. Commands the opportunity for rangers that understand true worth ! And be preserved by your stories and heritage.this country needs your people, and the dreamtime stories that bring to life history.
This is the best way to look after Australia and its people. Together they can help the land and keep and fulfil their place as stewards of the land as they have done for so long.
Indigenous rangers are the people with the knowledge it's way past not listening to there wisdom. Lets all listen with our heart and soul.
We need to ensure Indigenous culture is practiced through the work of Rangers, which will show all Australians how to better relate to our natural world. However, we also need to learn and think about many other Aboriginal philosophies to put our heads in a better space for contemplating the future.
The establishment of Indigenous rangers is important because it is symbolic and iconic of the leadership skills and caretaker role of aboriginal people in this land, and our larger recognition of their role, as such
I long for the day when I can take my family on an indigenous trek in ANY part of Australia. I can't imagine a more informative way of getting to know this country. I was recently in North Queensland and there was no Aboriginal Knowledge available to us except what was on tourist signposts. As a non-indigenous person I was both disappointed and ashamed that this wasn't a naturally available alternative. Keep up the good work.
Any move to interfere with or defund the Indigenous Ranger/Caring for Country program would be plainly genocidal, a crime against both Aboriginal people, and against the Australian environment and its threatened species. Expand its funding, but don't interfere in its work, Senator Scullion.
I support Indigenous Rangers working to protect Australia's Rangelands. What a logical and sensible and sensitive way to look after both the land and Australia's First peoples
Indiginous people were the first Australians, and are directly connected to the Earth and Nature. They understand from their culture and upbringing, ( from Elders), that it is emminent to protect Nature as we are bond to Mother Earth, a notion and believe that is lost for the white men. Now we find that without this connection with Nature, people have lost themselves, destroying and dumping everything in Nature, a total loss of respect, so a loss of self- respect. Having said that, something that American Indians predicted long ago, and ignored, i find this opportunity for the indigenous Australian people of staying, becoming Rangers totally appropriate, as they are the best keepers and helpers to profoundly understand their jobs, that no white men can compete, because Nature is inherent part of indeginous culture and the source of all. So yes Let them be and train more Rangers. From a white wog woman, who is too connected . Christine
Everyone wins with Indigenous ranger programs- people are supported to do what they love, communities thrive, the conservation values are priceless, carbon emissions are lowered.
There should be more Indigenous rangers and Indigenous Protected Areas.
The Traditional owners of the Land, know what is best for the land, they are one with the land, they are the keepers of the Land.Aboriginals are the traditional owners who walk, talk and breath the Land, they are best placed to what is best!!!
It is simple really it is Duty of Care by us the human species. The Mission statement is" Looking after Country" . Mother Earth is a living being and we humans are gifted to be living on this earth. We look after her she looks after and provides for us. However we are not living up to our side of the agreement and we are in for a big wake up call as seen in the current climate changes taking place in the world today. So let's take care of our unique country and do our bit by keeping the Ranger programme alive as they are the keepers/guardians doing the good work for our mob. We have the opportunity to lead the world in what we do here so let's pull together as one mob and our legacy will be a great country for our kids and their kids. That's what I'm talking about, one love-love our mother earth:-)
We should be so lucky that we have people that understand the land- an indigenous people. I trust that they have that innate knowledge in their DNA cause they been here as long as the land. They love the land and the land spirit talk to them, this is true. We need to protect our land, and I trust that best protectors ARE the indigenous people. Us, the white race are proven destroyers, let indigenous protect what is left in good shape, please. They have my voice. Kind regards Lidia
As the current government likes to throw out, it means 'Jobs and Growth' for Indigenous Australians allowing for pride to return to their people.
Because they're vital to the continual protection of there land and native species of flora and fauna no money could have the same value
A wonderful thing for our country and it people. We want to protect what I believe all Australians are most proud of, the uniqueness of the land. Employment opportunities for indigenous peoples who have inherited have a deep connection to the land makes good sense.
Indigenous rangers have the unique knowledge of the land and animals, the movement of the seasons and the effect on the land. They have cared for and managed the land that they live on and have prosper for generations after generations and passed on the knowledge to those new generations so they can care for the land and all its diversity. I'm 100 per cent behind you. Keep doing a great job so we can all enjoy the land and it's beauty and diversity.
Indigenous Rangers provide an invaluable role for their land, their community and need to be supported, encouraged and respected.
Only the True people of this Country understand Country and will care for it as it should be cared for. Give these people the right to care fir their country
People need meaningful employment opportunities in order to thrive as healthy strong independent members of society. What could be more meaningful than working in one's own community, on one's own country? It's a no-brainer!
They know best what is best for this land. Believe me, they looked after this land for more than over 40 000 years.
Country also needs carers!
I can't think of a reason not to support Aboriginal Rangers. Who knows and respects the land more? Who has been caring for the land for more than 40,000 years? Who are the people, needed to be role models for young Aboriginal people? It's common sense to employ Aboriginal Rangers.
No one knows country like the people that have lived 'with' the country for thousands of years passing their skills and knowledge through the generations. Our country needs our people and our people need our country.
Who better to care for our country?
Indigenous Australians are the traditional custodians of our Land, Australia. I 'trust' them, they know the land, they respect it, understand it and they are a part of the land. They will protect the land for future generations, for all Australians.
Indigenous Aboriginal people were the first peoples to populate this amazing country we now call "home". Their knowledge and affinity with this land make them the ideal people to work as rangers and guides protecting this precious land. Being a role model for children is one of the most important impressions made on a child. This is a win- win situation !!!
Aboriginal peoples have managed Australia sustainably for thousands of years. They understand how it works. They are the best people to be working as rangers and carers of country and should be encouraged to do so in all possible ways - for the good of us all.
To properly look after these areas, the Kooris know it best. Thus they're the best people to look after these areas.
Who better to steward the land than the people who have done a much better job than any who came after and who know this land much better as well. Always have the best person for the job!
This big country needs Indigenous Rangers just as much as it needs water. The Indigenous peoples are the only people who can save the land for future generations there is so much for all to learn from there vast data base of knowledge. It is time for us all to work together to save it.
Because country is part of it's people, no money can buy it only it's people feel it's need at it's most profound state.
Because it just makes sense. The original landowners of this beautiful country, know it better than anyone.
Indigenous rangers and Indigenous Protected Areas are vital for the protection of our precious Australian outback.
I totally support our own indigenous people to manage wild life and the bush land. They know far far more about the land than non indigenous people will ever. Indigenous people are our invaluable experts on the welfare of our beautiful land. We must treasure and appreciate their knowledge and valuable skills.
Authentic purposeful work is what we all need. Who better to care for the country than the original custodians of the land. Healing starts here with the land.
Thank you.
The Indigenous people of this country are the backbone of this land and know more about the way of life, it's earth the plants etc keep your hands off their jobs we need them to protect our wildlife our animals they are the best rangers in the world we need more of them not idiots who don't know what they are talking about.
Because i care about my lovely Australia,
Country needs these rangers
As well as sharing their history of land and culture Indigenous rangers can provide so much knowledge on protecting and preserving this beautiful country. For thousands of years they were able to adapt themselves to the landscape instead of changing (and destroying) the land to suit themselves or for profit. We have much to learn from them.
I have long said, given their affinity with the land, that indigenous peoples should be trained (in modern agricultural science) and made the carers of all lands in Australia. This of course should not exclude any other Australians being part of the caring for our lands, nor should it exclude an indigenous person from pursuing another career. Nor should it automatically give indigenous sole rights over any area they look after to the exclusion of any other Australians.
I love to travel as often as possible to remote locations such as the Kimberley, Central Oz, NT, Western Qld - anywhere and everywhere. It's so important to me to know that I can connect with traditional custodians of these beautiful places, so that I can also conext with the country in a deeper level; understand its life, how it has been, how time has impacted across millennia. I only want an Indigenous Ranger to guide me through these precious times in my life. I want authenticity. I want to connect with these places not only with my physical being, but with my entire spiritual being.
The young children of today are this worlds future. They need to see what great things the adults around them are doing so that they may follow. Our environment is so very precious and we need the younger generation to love it just as much as these rangers do. This is our only world and we must protect it.
Our indigenous peoples are the heart mind spirit and soul of this country and that position and sovereignty should never be taken away again from them. Education has, unfortunately, always been seen as a means only to employment and out here in remote WA there are very few culturally relevant jobs, if any jobs at all. For the young people to see their family and elders getting paid to work and protect country and therefore law and culture is extremely significant and has a rippling effect throughout the whole community. Please let this continue!
There is no one more qualified to manage and care for this beautiful land than those who have so beautifully managed it since time began
The environment needs the Indigenous wisdom of the land at this crucial time
I support indigenous people regaining their identity and self-determination.
I love our beautiful, threatened countryside, love the reverence Indigenous people have for the land and understand the need our Indigenous people have for purposeful, substantial activity that lifts their people with dignity and togetherness.
Being a paying supporter of Indigenous Community Volunteer (ICV ) for quite a while I wish everyone well in there quest for more rangers. Our office is situated in MAWSON ACT. If you wish to know more on volunteers do to help Indigenous communities Ring 1800 819 542.
We need to have our indigenous people looking after the land of this beautiful country so that their wisdom and care supports our country in the best possible way. Hopefully this will enable the transfer of this knowledge to all who live on this land whatever their colour or creed.
Why would we not look to indigenous people to work as rangers in protected areas of Australia? They did an infinitely better job of looking after the land than subsequent arrivals have managed.
I support Indigenous Australians, being Rangers as I think this Beatutiful Country has been destroyed and neglected long enough. I think they are the Ideal people to do the work they have been bought up and trained all their lives to continue doing it.
Indigenous rangers are the most qualified to look after their land. This program gives them meaningful employment, keeps them where they want to live - in their country- and would have immense social and cultural benefits. The young can then believe they can have a good job, so education has a purpose.
I will always support indigenous people because they understand this land, love this land and respect this land. They can be trusted to look after our country's animals, birds and fish healthy and flourishing.
We need to keep such great knowledge and experience for all and especially for future generations.
Country is the most important thing everything comes from Country. Who best to look after Country are Rangers from the owners of Country. You have my absolute support
Indigenous rangers are our last connection to real knowledge, respect and understanding of the Australian landscape and processes. We need to keep this connection alive - for the sake of future generations. Visitors as well as citizens value their presence and input.
I feel comfortable that the right people are doing the right job. Who better than those who love this land.
With their knowledge, understanding and love of their ancestorial lands, they are uniquely qualified for the work . And deserve it.
I support indigenous rangers protecting Australia because the country needs all the help it can get to recover from the onslaught of the last 200 years of European occupation. Aboriginal people need jobs relevant to their culture so it's a perfect match.
They are the traditional owners, they have a right to be caring for that land and they know what's best
They know the land and love the land, they should be the natural caretakers of our land
I am an Aboriginal woman of 59 and have been a paid bush regenerator for a long time. I get to be on and care for the Sansdtone Country that I love
I believe our Indigenous peoples are the only ones who should be able to become Indigenous Rangers as they are experienced in the care, respect, protection & love of their land & as the original land owners know how to look after the land. Indigenous Youth would benefit from learning from Indigenous Elder Rangers for decades & upholding there ancestry .Indigenous Rangers are respected by all.
I appreciate the knowledge and respect Aboriginal people have of their land, and their willingness to share. We would be lost without them.
Because they are closer to the land and understand the country better and have more compassion for the enviroment
I support indigenous rangers because this helps rebuild the connection between indigenous people and country that we damaged so badly from colonisation. At the same time all of us benefit from the land being cared for by drawing on old and new knowledge.
Yes more indigenous rangers please to protect our precious land.
THe loving care of this country can only be handled by people who truly inderstand it. THank you
Who better to work to protect and respect the land than those who know and love it intimately.
Respect for land. Respect for aboriginal people.
To give meaningful work to people who deserve the opportunity.
We have take so much, we need to give back to the indigenous people. The more control they have over the land, the better it will be for all. We need to give belief to the aboriginal youth that they are still part of the land, so they can be inspired to contribute to it.
The true owners of this land deserve the right to nurture and protect it! As a white person, I believe we have taken that right away from them and it must be given back! I realise the untold damage we have caused to this land, as well as the urgent need to take corrective steps. Indigenous Rangers are the this first step!!!
I have a deep love for Australia's Aboriginal culture and spirituality it breaks my heart that these things are not taught in Our schools.
Indigenous people have respect for the land and the wildlife, who better to entrust our bush to, than the people who have cared for Australia long long before white man appeared. They are the custodians of this land and have so much more experience that we do. Big organisations wielding money power are destroying our precious bush, animals and ecological system so we need these caring Indigenous people to protect them as only they know how.
Because indigenous people understand their country better than anyone. We have a wonderful group where I live in Byron working for National parks. Also Uluri. Good luck Maggi
I support indigenous rangers because as first nation people they understand and care about this beautiful country.
Congratulations, you are doing a wonderful job. You are the people who know how to care for this land.
Country needs people to protect and to share ancient knowledge for future generations and for a sustainable environment.
It is a logical solution to protect our environment and Aboriginal people are best suited for this task. Destruction of the land must stop in the name of progress.
I am a white Australian from European descent. It goes without saying that the Aboriginal peoples were the first people of this Country. They successfully lived, cared for and managed the land. This has been passed down through generations. Rangers now continue to carry this on - with pride and knowledge. This job is more important than ever - in our changing world. This is a VERY important special job done by very important specialist people.
I love this country and our indigenous rangers SEE, KNOW and SHARE this country the best. They get my vote and support even when the sun isn't shining.
There is nothing better for the land than the people who know it. The look of pride and happiness on their faces can only rebound through out the communities. Common sense finally.
I believe that the aboriginal people would do a better job of safeguarding our beautiful & unique flora & fauna because they have an infinity with our beautiful country
The ranger program is a culturally relevant approach to overcoming a whole range of challenges. I hope to see it continue and expand.
I Think all National Parks Australia wide should have Indigenous Rangers for a number of reasons They know the land ,They are part of the land and by employment it will give a sense of belonging and pride in their culture Imagine going to a NP greeted and asked to park the 4x4 and walk with them while they explain their land. I would say the tourism in National Parks would be at a premium ,for overseas and locals alike. Also it would give the youngsters an achievable goal To Be An Indigenous Ranger I Say Bring it On
I support this concept because there is no reason not to. Yet every reason to do so. This land is big, beautiful and ancient. And so are the indigenous peoples. I recognise that our histories have been rough and bloody. With mistakes made on both side, but as a descendant of white european immigrants (or invaders, I guess, depending on your perspective) I recognise that they were responsible for some rather heinous acts. But these areas not only allow the indigenous communities to reconnect with and maintain their own ancient cultures on their lands, but also a chance for ALL of us to maybe find a way to bridge the gap between our cultures, and repair the damage of the past. We can not change what has gone before, but we CAN build a bright and beautiful future. And this program MUST be a part of that. The Indigenous culture is as much a part of Australian culture as anything else. And if we lose that, we lose a large part of who we are as a nation.
Give pride back to aboriganal peoples and their the best people to care for this great land
I stand with the First Nationals of Australia. They are the original custodians of this country. Their culture respects and cares for country.
We need Aboriginal Rangers, They love and care for their Country
What better way to look after our precious land than to have indigenous rangers looking after it. I the past if we had listened to indigenous people there would not be the devastation of our land. Indigenous Rangers know how to look after the land, their ancestors have been doing it for centuries. Why don't the politicians listen to Indigenous Elders on how to manage our land, especially to do with fires. More power to the our Indigenous people, they have been persecuted long enough.
Good luck you are all doing a brilliant job. :-)
The environment is the most important thing we have and I believe that most indigenous rangers know what's best for it.
Why wouldn't I? This is our country. The best people to care for the 'outback' are those people who have done so for thousands of years.
Because who knows our country better than our first people the know it because they are born of it and it is the essence of their being
I support this work because without men and women on the ground the environmental damage that has occured does not change or improve. I would love to see longterm funding for these jobs as it takes years and longterm plans/actions to address some of the many problems. loss of habitat, the introduced species(plants and animals) that have caused so much damage. It is a wonderful feeling that comes with knowing how important this work is. I always love to read and learn about the wonderful work being done in remote and different places protecting and preserving culture and country. I wish governments would understand how important it is for 20 year funding (minimum) to achieve good results. After all these problems have been many years in the making. Thank you.
To protect and preserve those parts of our country that have escaped industrial exploitation who better than the indigenous people of the area.
I not only support more Indigenous Rangers and Protected areas I want All Mining Rights to be removed from overseas control and be given back to the Rightful Owners. That includes British control. In fact all resources should be managed by The Indigenous Owners. Minerals, Oil, Gas, Timber, Fisheries, Water and Air Quality. Aim high. Don,t give up.
The positives coming out of this program can't be measured in dollars and cents but they add profoundly to the spiritual wealth this country and its future health.
The work that Indigenous rangers do is REAL work, meaningful work that not only builds a sense of self worth in the rangers themselves but also helps to strengthen their communities, not least by showing an example to young people. It is also necessary environmental and cultural work, best and rightfully performed by the people who identify with and have deep cultural knowledge of the land. We owe it to the people and our country to properly support and fund this critically important initiative.
Indigenous peoples are the traditional owners of our land. The understand this country like no other. Their understanding is not scientific it is cultural and part of their very being. They understand in a different way to us. It is wonderful and exciting as it "Told by their understanding."
Australia's indigenous populations looked after this country for thousands of years until the British came. We pushed the indigenous peoples away and proceeded to ruin the land and kill the native animals. I love the Australian country and the indigenous rangers are what we need.
I was born in Australia, but it wasn't until i traveled around Australia on a three year holiday that I got to experience all the majesty of this beautiful land. It also highlighted how little i knew about my country's history and heritage. Some of my favourite spots were those of aboriginal cultural significance. These need to be protected and shared and who better to do this than the people who live it and love it.
No-brainer really. The best way to look after our land is to get the people back on it who know how to look after it. Someday we may get the cattle and other ferals off too, and begin to restore some of the productivity it used to have. We'll all benefit.
Indigenous people come from a heritage of custodianship which respects the land in which they live. Successive Governments of this land have shown by their actions that this is a foreign concept to them by selling out to the highest bidder despite the damage to the country that will last for many generations. to come.
This is a win-win situation; caring for the land gives people a great job and the people in the job get to care for the land that they love.
The Ranger program is one of potentially the greatest ever Business and Employment venture for our first People.Who better can provide the Love and knowledge in caring for the land and parks than the people whose soul is deep connected to the land.If some proper funding is coming from the federal Government then the Ranger programs will stay in existence for decades to come.Such a great idea and is already in practice for a while. The funding will be repayed hundred fold.
Indigenous Ausralians understand our land better than others there are many benefits in making as many rangers as possible from Indigenous Australians, giving them the dignity to support themselves doing what they know better than others and being role models for their communities.
Its time we invested in the first people of this land. Its time we invested in the land. Its time we nurture the ancient culture and country and see it as a treasure that must be preserved. By supporting the Elders and Rangers we will create a unique preservation network that will be here long after we have all gone - this investment is for the first people and evey single one of us who lives now and all our children to come. Its is time.
I support Indigenous Rangers and Indigenous Protected Areas because the Indigenous people are the best people to provide the care and protection that is necessary for their culture and our combined history. I agree with a quote from Chris Sarra, who says it is incredibly valuable and educational for the Indigenous children to see proud, strong adults working as Indigenous Rangers. The passion that comes through when Nyaparu Rose says living and working on country is like medicine to her and Barbara Petrick who says you could chuck a million dollars at her and she would not change her job, because the land is more precious to her than anything else. There is no one better to hold these Indigenous Ranger positions than the Indigenous people. We will all benefit.
Because they are people of the land, who know its story lines and protect them for future generations.
It's common sense to keep the people who have knowledge to take care of their own land , and give them the responsibility and personal satisfaction of meaningful employment, and it will go a long way in reconciliation.
Country needs people to love and care for every aspect, every living thing. Who better to care than those who have cared for Country for so long. Let's let reconnection to Country build into a national movement.
It is a privilege to support the Indigenous Ranger Programs. It is an even greater privilege to live in this amazing country we call Australia beside the Nations First Peoples. It is why I believe we all need to do our part and learn how to become protectors and custodians of our now shared land so all of our children can share in the beauty, heritage, culture and knowledge to keep passing on through the generations.
This is really caring for country. Congratulations on your stand to protect country no matter what.
Well we seem to be helping every one else in the word. This is really a good cause. The Aboriginal people have been looking after this country and been doing a great job so please do not let it end.
There are so many good reasons to support and broaden the Indigenous ranger programs. Rangers can keep going a wonderful ancient tradition of looking after country and inspire their elders to be involved in deepening their knowledge. Rangers contribute to their families and the local economy if they're employed. Young indigenous people may be inspired to stick with their education for meaningful jobs like that. All Australians benefit form learning a bit of cultural knowledge about the land. Important ancient heritage sites get a chance to be known, cared for and shared. There is a greater chance of restoring health to previously neglected areas. Aboriginal rangers can be keen observers of the conservation status of plants and animals that most people don't know about. These species could be the key to medical breakthroughs and health breakthroughs of the future. Biodiversity could save the planet. Aboriginal people everywhere can be proud of their rangers. Non-Aboriginal people can share in this ancient knowledge and tradition. It is a winner strategy for community development and conservation!
Who possibly could not be willing to add their voice to, and be supportive of this? Furthermore it is very much my view that MUCH more needs to be done toward the betterment of Indigenous Peoples everywhere, and that they must be listened to; particularly in regard to protection of environment. Stop poisoning Water, Air, and Earth.
Indigenous rangers know their country and know best how to look after it. They are the only people with enough knowlege of the environment and wildlife to protect them, and maybe undo some of the harm that has been done
Well of course I support them It's their country who else could look after it with the same feeling, connection or understanding
I strongly support indigenous rangers. It gives them pride about their land, provides work and they set great examples for the new generation of indigenous children. Our country and land needs carers and these are the best people for the job. Pride, self worth are more important than anything for our indigenous people
Aboriginal people have looked after this land for over 60,000 years. They cared for it, respected it and loved it. Therefore they would be the best people to continue caring for it. Us invaders have shown little respect over the past 200 years with introducing animals which have destroyed the land and the animals which live upon it. We have failed to understand this land and its people. It is about time we listened to them and respected their knowledge.
I believe indigenous Australia's should be the Rangers that look after the land, in all States, they are the only people who truly understand the importance of caring for the land they have done so for thousands of years, so of course they Understand what it needs. There for I believe they should be able to care for their land and should have full government support.
Indigenous people protected Australia for tens of thousands of years and kept it the way it should be. Then it was invaded by Capitalism Sunday 29 April 1770, and within 250 years has just about destroyed the Natural Beauty of Australia...Let the Indigenous people bring back the Beauty of Australia...
The original people of Australia have all the knowledge of their ancestors and are the true guardians of our land, having them in these roles is crucial to the survival of our land and native species
We must listen to the people, the traditional owners of the land, as they are most connected to the land. Sustainability, management, decisions and future planning must be done with consultation with our proud historical traditional owners. We need to learn from our countries true people and listen with humility and without judgement and never with the dollar in mind before people and their babies. It's all about family and balance, not shady political deals and money. If we want to truly move forward, it must be with actions, not just words from our new leaders.... The old people have the key, listen to them completely and with an open mind and heart. Forget the dollar. People are more important than money and that's all these issues ever boil down to. We kill the planet, we all die. Understand?!
What perfect sense the original custodians caring for this land as they always have , all it needs is a bit of support , like commetment from those in power
Our land needs to be cared for by people who understand and respect the land.
It is only logical that we have indigenous rangers and indigenous protected land. I totally support this and hope decision makers do too.
All humans need a deep connection with the earth. As a non-indigenous Australian I say we urgently need to support and learn from people who know how!
Looking after your native animals is the way to go,all Australians must see the value in that pursuit!
People need jobs to prosper and land care is a critical issue in such an ancient continent. Who better to care for the land than its original owners? Let us learn from them and help them retain their culture and heritage which enriches us all.
I want to learn about country and all my fellow species from the people who know the sacredness and power of this land and have done for longer than anyone on any other land on this earth. It's a no brainer! And I fell in love with the indigenous rangers up at Arnhem Land - so funny, gentle, loose and free.
No one knows the country better than the indigenous people and this program is so well suited to enable them to talk about the land that they belong to with knowledge and pride as well as much needed jobs and self worth.
As indigenous rangers say, "Country needs people". I love that the ancient connections are being maintained.
Indigenous rangers are the logical people to be looking after their land. They know the land better than anyone else. There should be no question about it. Respect the people who have the knowledge and in turn this respect is shown to the land. This land is extremely important to Australia and it needs to be looked after correctly.
Having returned to Australia after 38 years abroad, I see this wonderful country from such a different perspective. Indigenous rangers working to protect this wonderful fragile country and teaching us how to see it with different eyes is crucially important for all.
As the custodians of your land, it should be Aborigional people in charge of what and what not happens on your land.
because if we don't thousands of years of our history will be lost forever, isn't it bad enough that most of our languages have gone, now the mining companies want to destroy our art, our history in stories that anyone can read and understand because it is pictures draw on rock, in caves, under rock overlays. these stories are our history, they are not something to be destroyed by mining companies or tourist that destroy them. We need our rangers, we need them now and we ned lots more of them. Dennis Murray ( Yorta Yorta man)
There's so much to learn from Indigenous Knowledge of Country and its history culture and environment.
It's a win win situation. Their wealth of knowledge will help preserve and conserve the natural environment of our country
I support Indigenous rangers because it makes SO much sense. People caring for country, country caring for people.
Why do I support Indigenous Australians becoming rangers & taking care of this wonderful country we get to call home.. Is because they know this land, they live it, breath it, own it. Whom else could you trust in to save this country from being reaped & pillaged of its precious recorces than the natural native indigenous rightful land owners.. That's why I'd rather put my trust of the future of this country into the hands of the Indigenous Australian than the greedy government money grubbing hands !!
To be a good Ranger you should know the land, and no one knows the land better than an Indigenous Australian. We need Indigenous Rangers to ensure the land is looked after the way it should be, after all, it is their land and always has been.
Our sea country, desert landscape & native species needs more Indigenous Rangers. Country needs people and Australia needs knowledgeable Indigenous Rangers. This dreamtime story is worth sharing and saving.
I support indigenous Rangers and the land of these indigenous brothers and sisters who protect mother nature's gift to us all. I stand for the indigenous rights to keep this precious land and hope alive for our Rangers to educate all people who must learn and believe that the natives, the indigenous, the aboriginals, the people of this country, this land, this home, will always belong and give to those who are willing to respect these values these rights, these indigenous laws. I pledge my full support for the indigenous brothers and sisters of this land we all now call home.
My Son in law is an Indigenous park Ranger ( Bundjalung) for the far north coast National Parks and wildlife, I am very proud of his accomplishments. I will fight what ever government I have to for him to keep his awesome job that he loves immensely. How dare the government take anything further from the rightful owners of this land.
It is vital that the people who have been on this land for thousand of years are still taking care of it, sharing it with us and are provided with funds to continue to do so.
Indigenous Rangers are not only guardians of Indigenous Protected Areas, the spiritual connection they have with their country give them a deeper understanding of the land and the importance of caring for it and treating it with respect. Who better to safeguard it for future generations. I support Indigenous Rangers and the important work they do.
We enjoyed an amazing experience with an Indigenous ranger at Mungo. He was passionate and professional. We got to know him and discovered that he only gets part time work and is struggling to support his family. We should be funding full time work for Indigenous people to look after our natural environments. It means so much for them and builds strong families and capable children.
I think this is a great initiative as the country needs rangers with special skills. We live in the most incredible country and let's look after it as best as we can. Dr Pamela Davis
Because they do a great job and they know and love their country. It belongs to them
Indigenous rangers seem to obvious solution to work in the areas that mean something to them. Which is all of Australia. Lets give them meaningful work which they will do well, and offer them a means of gaining pride and self esteem. A perfect solution , it would seem.
My son is an Indigenous Ranger in his 'tribal' country. I have never seen him happier or more committed. Essential that ongoing funding support this program for forward planning and recruitment of more young people for both environmental and Indigenous cultural reasons (employment that THEY find relevant). One of the most effective all round programs that I have seen
I am so grateful to have grown up in Australia. My Grandparents came from Germany after the devastating second world war. After they were released from an internment camp they lived briefly- with my then 5 year old Mum- at Redhead Beach in Newcastle NSW in a caravan. My Mum still talks with great love of the places she played in the lagoons and the salt bush of the coast. Have always lived coastal myself but the deserts and rain-forests have often called to me too and I am thankful for the beauty and to the First People of this country, keeping country healthy and vital in the face of European settlement. I thank the Rangers and the custodians of this land! They bring connection, great knowledge and love to their roles.
I can't think of anyone better than an indigenous ranger to protect our amazing country, flora and fauna - and to provide meaningful jobs in places where work isn't always easy to obtain. A win-win situation!
I support Indigenous Rangers because they are the best people for this extremely important work. Indigenous People and hence Rangers live in tune with mother earth and instinctively understand what's the problem. They belong to earth.
Support for indigenous Rangers and Protected Area is a support for posterity! For Our children, children's children!! Indeed, it is a support for the best protected area management practice
It'd be a tragedy to lose people and cultures that have enriched us down through the ages. I'm a Yank who supports American Indians' rights here and indigenous cultures throughout the world. Because at heart, we're all one.
Can't rape, kidnap, murder or enslave country out of 250,000 generations of Aboriginal People. They know the land like we know green grass. Can't steal ALL the country from them. We need them.
Our indigenous custodians are owed respect and continued support, with thanks.
having people who belong to country available to educate and show us around is a priceless resource. Its a win win for all of us
Too much of Australia is now empty. Where once people roamed and micro-managed using fire it is now left to chance and often the end result is an out of control, hot destructive fire. This program creates jobs with meaning in a world where so many lives struggle to find it.
Being the custodians of this continent for thousands of years our indigenous people have been much more than rangers. Their land management is without parallel and indeed is studied and practiced in scientific organisations as we learn more of it. The more indigenous ranger that can be employed - the richer our country will grow.
I can't think of better people for these roles, with their whole philosophy of life encompassing and honouring nature and with vast knowledge to contribute.
No one knows the land better,no one cares for the land more, no one loves the land more.who could do it better?
Indigenous people's should be rangers more than white people. They are native to the land,it is their land afterall and they know and love it better than any other people. Shine on brothers
Arabana country needs rangers.
Indigenous people as the rightful owners of this land deserve higher level of recognition, and support to be more involved in decision making of well being of Australian environment. I would like to see more indigenous people in power of decision making about the future of their country.
Who better to after the land they call country and is their home and that if their families. Love of all will provide a sustainable future.
We need people who more than understand the land love it. We need to reconcile the skills passed down can not be taught at uni we need a mix of skills and understanding both traditional and science to save our land ..people to stand up for mother nature ..theese rangers give hope to the next generation and can help save our land for them ..give them a job ad the respect they deserve
Rangers carry on a tradition of care and a loving relationship with country that we all need to learn for our future survival as a species.
I have travelled in The Kimberly, Arnhem Land and Kakadu and value these lands and people, their stories, music and wisdom. Most recently the efforts by rangers in managing the fierce fires in The Kimberly underline the importance of indigenous land management. Thank you for protecting these special places.
We need to protect our land, and help our people. Having indigenous people in the role just makes sense.
Everybody deserves to have the opportunity to care for their land in a meaningful way. In order to stop disadvantage in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities we need jobs that create a sense of well being and order and give all those living in communities a sense of purpose and pride in their communities. Funding these jobs and proper care programs ensures all Australian people will benefit from the land being properly cared for and ultimately save more money than funding these projects will cost.
Their work is priceless. I have seen how they managed to move a beached whale (think about this, seriously a whole, huge bugger of a WHALE) back into the ocean in under three hours! They were fast, efficient and very friendly and upbeat, cannot thank them enough.
Having travelled across this country it is glaringly obvious that its conservation and care has fallen into a shameful state in many areas - having been in the hands of others for the last century or two.. By supporting Indigenous rangers we have so much to reclaim and gain as a country and people.
I grew up with the Indigenous people of Arnhem Land in the 70s. I will never forget old Carla and Ruby as my babysitters, my mum was station cook, dad was Park Ranger.. We are white people but that didn't matter to them.. I remember their indicate art weaving their baskets and mats and paintings.. They showed us how to live as one with this beautiful ancient land.. I can remember the wonderous stories around the camp fire and made us laugh with their wonderful sense of humour.. I can remember how hard and diligent they worked on the station and were supreme horse men and anything they set their mind to.. Their souls are entwined with this land and they are the best to tell the world about it when they visit.. Australia is on most people's list to visit and they find one of the most oldest races on the planet fascinating to be around.. It's a win win in my eyes and gives the younger generation proof of a future.. :)
Indigenous Australians know the country better than any other. They have lived on it for hundreds of thousands of years. They grow up believing and understanding the land is thier lifeblood. They know we all need the land to survive. To have the natural owners teach us how to understand the country we live in will benefit all who live I Australia for generations to come.
I have worked with remote Indigenous communities since 2001 and have seen the great work done by Indigenous Rangers. Think of this. Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park is well managed by Qld NP rangers with a heap of equipment and support. Not far away, Indigenous Rangers manage a much greater area with a fraction of the resources and belong to the country they care for. Supporting Indigenous Rangers is a no brainer for cultural reasons and, if you think that way, the economics stack up too.
Thirty years ago, my parents took my sister and l out of school to travel Australia. We spent a lot of time in National Parks crossing paths with many rangers but the one l remember the most was an indigenous ranger in the Flinders Ranges called "Badger" he taught us so much about bush tucker including many stories about life living on the land. It was truly an unforgettable experience and his memory has stayed with me. I feel blessed to have had the chance to meet such a knowledgeable and passionate person, truly inspiring to a twelve year old girl who was travelling this great sacred land.
Wow how much I/ we could learn from them and further support to learning and teaching more of their incredible knowledge. I totally support indigenous rangers.
Only Traditional Owners have the Lore and Culture Knowledge to Care And Protect Our Traditional Lands.
indigenous rangers are fundamental to the restoration and repair of our country. Their understanding that the land owns us, and not the other way round, is the path of salvation for us all. Allowing traditional caretakers to return to their empowered roles of connection and compassion without the leashes of enforced white mans ways is the only way forward for Australia and all countries still fortunate enough to have aboriginal peoples on the lands to which they belong. Moving freely and peacefully within their own systems of governing, as they did before our invasion.
It is SO simple. Who knows this land BETTER??
I have experienced the pleasure of of having indigenous guides....it is the only way to go, the knowlege they are passing on is infinite !!! Thankyou
The first Australians with an ancient and wise culture who know the land - are the very best custodians to lead us into the future. Most white Australians know nothing about this land and couldn't survive without electricity etc. We have much to learn. Let's hope we start listening soon.
Both overseas and Australian tourists visiting our National Parks expect to be educated by our First Nation peoples : we want their truth and dreamtime stories; authentic is what I expect when I visit overseas parks and Heritage sites by their indigenous peoples , from Alaska to Australia
This sounds like a worthy, Australia-wide programme for protecting the ancient culture and heritage of these wild places. I think it certainly deserves a solid funding-commitment from the Government going into the future.
We travelled to Kakadu and were fortunate to visit Katherine Gorge/Sth(?) Alligator River, with indigenous Rangers. They were full of information, very humorous and answered many, sometimes silly, questions from tourists.
I firmly believe that the original inhabitants of this wonderful land, could teach us a lot about our surroundings, flora, fauna and bushfire control, to name just a few things. I also believe that Aboriginal People should have a bigger say on how this country is run....they are, after all, the experts of our environment.
We were goven the opportunity to join Rangers in Maningrida for an on country learning experience. Thank you for the gift you gave to me and my student at Nossal High School in 2015. We miss you.
As the custodians of this land, our Indigenous Australians are its rightful keepers and carers. No one know or loves this great country more. We are extremely lucky to have such dedicated countrymen and women. It is safe in their hands, as it always was before.
The traditional land owners of this beautiful country deserve at the very least to look after and monitor what's left of the land western society has taken from them .. Atleast the hole in these beautiful people's hearts can atleast be partially filled ❤️
They've invested more into this country and are the true caregivers
Our land needs the stewardship and management that traditional custodians provide. I support the Country Needs People program.
Indigenous people of Australia are the first people of our nation. If their lives are to be improved their lives need to be honoured with the ability to work in settings they are proud of. Being a ranger is such work!
Who better to look after our beautiful wide land than those who have historically cared for it.
I know that I'm making a difference when I hear young people say "I wanna be a Ranger like my uncle".
The Indigenous people have 60,000 years of caretaking this land. No-one will have more knowledge or respect for this land more than her first people.
Because 40,000years of caring for the environment is an AWESOME skill base!
The aboriginal people know their own country intimately. They know there are not just four seasons in this country and they also know about the special seasons that arrive many years apart that will be so different from all the other seasonal years They know how to husband and care for their land under many different circumstances when we white people do not understand that this Land does not follow the same natural laws that rule most other countries.
We need people who are passionate about protecting the environment and the wildlife
Without the indigenous people and their knowledge this country will fade. Regardless of your thoughts and culture, these people can teach the rest of us what we need to do to survive. It comes down to one word and one action....RESPECT. Think about that. Everything we do comes down to RESPECT. Respect yourself and then you will respect everything else.
I support Indigenous Rangers because being Rangers they interact with their Country. So they keep the Country healthy and talked to and looked after AND they live healthy lives themselves both physically and mentally. I think we should all be thinking of looking after Mother Nature and interacting more with the natural world.
Looking after country, allows country to look after us, remember this first and all else flows... listen, learn, look after that which gives us life.
Supporting Indigenous rangers in protected areas protects these special places - by the experts! It recognizes respect for indigenous connection to land and builds communication between all people - within indigenous communities (young/old) and visitors. It also provides great employment opportunities.
I believe it's about time to be honest...knowledge that's passed down for Millenia on how to protect and care for the environment should be passed on.
Belatedly, elements of modern society are beginning to realise our whole planet needs the care, attention and respect indigenous communities have been giving the land[and sea] for millennia. Due to ignorance and greed much of this has been lost to the detriment of our Country. Any move to redress and reverse this loss must be wholeheartedly supported for the sake of Australia and ultimately the planet.
I respect the fact that the Aboriginal people have been caretakers of our land for thousands of years. Our Government should continue to support the funding for Aboriginal rangers as they have a great understanding of the Australian environment. I have recently traveled from Adelaide to Uluru by car on a bird/wildlife photographic expedition. As I walk through our fragile landscape it makes me realise how much I love our country. All Australians will benefit from the ongoing work of the dedicated Rangers!
I love the Australian bush and from a purely selfish perspective I want rangers who know about and are intimately connected to the land.
Who better to manage our lands than the custodians of our land.
I have been fortunate eneough to visit IPAs and meet indigenousr rangers in the NT, W.A and QLD. They do fantastic work - both as land managers, caring for the environment, also huge benefits for their communities
This is such a simple but important thing to do.
Our indigenous people of Australia are our Earth Keepers. Their knowledge of the land and how to care for it, surpasses any western degree to get the same job. Its Ancient, its Spiritual, its Forever, its Aboriginal.
It is so important that Indigenous people have the opportunity to manage their traditional lands. They will do it better than anyone else can and it is an essential part of preserving their culture and identity.
These rangers have such an understanding of cultural and connection with land that I believe their communication and care for the environment is invaluable
Our Indigineous mob have protected this land for 60,000+ years...how can we not trust them to keep maintaining our diverse & spectacular flora & fauna?!...& in the process educate us so we can work together as guardians of this gloriously precious country that we all love, respect & call home.
Because having indigenous role models are important for Aboriginal children. Who better than to look after the bush than those with the knowledge, it's common sense.
Of course!
From the day Cpt Cook arrived the lives of aboriginals changed for the worst. They were murdered, raped, their water poisoned and so many were slaves to big cattle station owners. It's about time our government asked how they can help instead of telling them what to do. And lets not forget all the stolen children.
I've just returned from 10 days in the Northern Territory - walking through places such as Litchfield, Nitmiluk and of course - Kakadu. My spirit was deeply touched and feels more restored having spent time in these places - though I admit it already pines to return to Kakadu and seeks Arnhem Land. Such noble work for the most worthy caretakers of our country. Our Country Needs People like this desperately! Thank you for the work you do and you're sharing the work of your hand with us.
Our people have been caretakers of this country since the beginning. It's the strongest connection, indescribable connection .But it's genuine connection withpu pose
We have been travelling through country WA as part of a local film and we have realised how little we know about our our land. Let's support the people who live in these areas and have the knowledge passed on from generations of history.
as traditional owners of our country than who netter to look after the land than those who respect it as e belong to the land and the land belongs to us who understandsit thank you fpr all the nob who are looking after this land
No one understands the heart and soul of this land like the aboriginal people do. This helps in all areas, jobs, self esteem, hope for the children, learning and preserving the traditional ways before the knowledge is lost. By combining their knowledge and applying it to environmental studies and land management we can truly have a win win balance and save our beautiful people and the delicate ecosystem we live in.
No one knows this country better than it's traditional custodians. Their knowledge of, and connection to, this land gives them the strength to protect it above anyone else. Thank you all for continuing to fight for this beautiful and unique piece of the planet!
Who better to take care of this land better than those who are part off it n understand it:)) good luck guys:)))))
Indigenous rangers do a great job of caring for the land and have done so for thousands of years. Sadly, in just 200 years white people have stuffed up much of Australia. Respect is due to Indigenous Australians for their knowledge and skills. It's about time we showed it.
It is important that our indigenous young people have access to the knowledge that can be passed down for our future generation to learn about country and to care for country. This is our dreaming, our story, our culture. Let us protect our COUNTRY.
Australians from all walks of life are calling for more Indigenous rangers and Indigenous Protected Areas. Together, our voices are influencing decision makers to invest in success, so please do the right thing for this issue and grant the call for more indigenous rangers and Indigenous Protected Areas. Other wise we may loose way more than Australia already has. Thank You YIRA YARKINY
I support preservation of our environment, who better to look after this land than our indigenous people who have looked after this land for thousands of years. I fully support this. We all can learn how to be in harmony with nature.
one it makes sense, two the rangers we have met have been fantastic people. There can never be enough of such special people in my view.
• Need for penalties for tourists who cause destruction of land or significant cultural areas. • Need for government to recognise biodiversity and other environmental values of Indigenous managed land. • Need for political (policy) and financial support for conservation. • Indigenous participation on a wider scale and inclusion of TEK. • Broader education (campaigns) for tourists to respect land rights and no go zones. • More Indigenous land and sea management agencies and ranger groups to enable greater access to country, maintenance of cultural responsibilities (e.g. policing the taking of local species of fauna or objects as souvenirs), feeling of being and belonging, and employment. • Protection and arrangements required in land use planning and development application processes to protect culture. For example: protection of family campsites, birthing sites, grave sites, plants, bores, wells, hunting and gathering grounds.
I honour the land and rivers and the First People who continue to care for it. I hope one day all people will honour their place.
The employment of indigenous rangers makes sense on so many levels. Who better to look after our environmental resources and heritage than those whose history and culture is most invested in it.
The people who love and know our land best, should be the ones to nurture and protect it.
I support the Indigenous Rangers and Protected Indigenous areas because it makes perfect sense. Our indigenous peoples know the land. Indigenous peoples understand very strongly that people belong to the country, not the country belonging to the people and we should respect and support this. Our Indigenous peoples have been here a long long time and we should listen and learn
I support employing Aboriginal people to look after their own country as they have done for thousands of years before the English arrived and decieded to hunt down and shoot as many as possible .
WHO IN THE WORLD KNOW & CARE SO MUCH FOR OUR LAND BUT THE TRADITIONAL GUARDIANS OF OUR GREAT LAND, YES WE NEED MORE OF OUR MOB TO BE DOING THIS WORK AND KNOW HOW THE LANDSCAPE LOOKS & FEELS, THEY CAN SEE SOMETHING OUT OF PLACE FOR MILES & MILES, THE GOVERMNENTS KNOW THIS, PERHAPS IT IS TOO SUCCEFFUL BE OWNED & RUN BY THE LOCAL GUARDIANS, MIGHT BE DOING TOO MANY GUBS OUT OF WORK...............IN UNITY MY MOB
As a Founding Director of the Rangers support network The Thin Green Line Foundation, I've witnessed the success of indigenous ranger programs around the world - amongst the best have been those run in Australia. I hope this gets full recognition.
Having taught in remote Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, I am aware of the importance of maintaining the relationship between indigenous people and their country. The Indigenous Ranger program is vital in this regard.
These jobs are important to our Aboriginal brothers and sisters and who is more qualified to caretake this land just as their Ancestors have done for many millenia. Their request for these jobs have my full support.
It just makes sense, it benefits our aboriginal community and our country. I've been travelling across Australia fulltime for the past 5 years and I want my grandson to have the opportunity to do the same one day. Please support this great project!
Indigenous Rangers are who our Country needs to look after Environmental & other issues. They are the people who have our Country in their culture.
Let's have some common sense here and do the right thing.
Because when I lived and worked with Indigenous communities in Arnhem Land NT for many years it was clear that the original custodians of the land understand the land intimately. They also took their responsibility of being custodians very seriously, as part of their very being. If we want country to survive we need to employ all the skills and knowledge of the Indigenous people who live in and on the country. It's the only way to go reall5. To do otherwise is very backward and wrong headed.
Fantastic program it makes perfect sense to have Indigenous Australians looking after and caring for our Flora and Fauna. Not only does it give them a sense of pride in them selves it is also helping to keep our Rain Forest, and our Bushland free of Ferral animals enabaling our Native Animals and Plants to survive. I am very proud to support in any way. I wish every indigenous individual Good luck for the future as the true custodian's of our great Country. Carole Sheen
I visited Torres Straits in 2013 and was impressed with the people I met. I've also visited Broome and the north west and Darwin and the Tiwi Islands and would like to see more people trained as rangers.
I see the reports and the results of your caring for the land including the flora and fauna and I am proud to lend my support to this program and hope that it is extended by more rangers as custodians of this Great Southern Land.
Among many allegedly failed programs to advance Indigenous people, these are among several that REALLY WORK! That's because they have some important characteristics of other successful initiatives: cultural significance and relevance; genuine consultation with local communities and involvement of their members in decision-making; respect for Aboriginal peoples' countries; acknowledgement of their special expertise .... More like these, please!
I support them because they have a history of nurturing our precious land we allow multinationals to exploit it for money
who better to look after country than the very people who have been doing so for over 60,000 years
This funding is extremely vital for our indiginous people and land and country. We need as Australians to all get behind this!
As a Wildlife Guide and Tour Operator I have two big reasons to support Indigenous Rangers on country. 1. Aboriginal People are the best custodians of land Australia has ever had or ever will have. 2. Our wildlife needs the very best of care, and Aboriginal Rangers give that.
They are one with the land. They listen and know how to fix it. They must be allowed to look after their land so that future generations can see how they manage their environment, experience their culture and hear their stories.
This is employment for Indigenous people and successes of past programs should be extended
It is important that indigenous people be enabled to be rangers to protect & care for this land with its rocks, rivers, plants & animals. Their ancestors looked after this country so well before the first fleet & white settlers came & took the land.
We just have to add our support on rolling these actions forward. Do it.
The native Australian peoples have been custodians of this land for thousands of years. They know it far better than we think we do (hence the bushfires in Tasmania, which could have been avoided if the government had listened to the local Aboriginals). It is only right that they should be included in the caretaking of this land.
Self explanatory - this land is theirs.
Because of their rights, also of their human rights.
We need indigenous rangers as they know how to protect and maintain the land better than most .
I live in nsw Sydney in the Botany Bay Area we have so many sites here within our national parks and surrounding areas I believe that this program would benefit all Aboriginal people across our states inpaticuliar our young people I hope that the government will look at this seriously and put more funding into these programs across Australia
Because First People have a custodial tradition and immense history and in the present protecting their respective country / lands .I think all Australians should support the traditional owners in this caretaking and preservation roles by creating real jobs in this area for all First People Communities
We need to keep rangers around to teach us about the dream times & history.
It makes perfect sense to employ the people and the culture that managed this vast continent and its ecosystems for 10s of thousands of years presenting a country so rich and beautiful the British were only too happy to steal and kill and abuse the inhabitants that had managed to so wonderfully. In just over 200 years white European cultural practices have managed to destroy much of the environment that was here. I know its not fair to say "well we've wrecked it so here have it back and see what you can do" but its certainly a step in the right direction to not only to help the environment but give back a people their land and recognise their culture and reinstate their dignity.
Worked in Ulara for 2 years now aware of how important this cause is
Our land and natural resources need to be managed for the benefit of all Australians. Indigenous people have the knowledge, capacity and relationships with the land that can provide these benefits for current and future generations.
Country is of deepest significance to First Australians - part of their identity. No Second Australian can have as deep a commitment to country. Respecting this means having indigenous people as rangers - a perfect match of people and country.
Who better to look after our wonderful land. They have been looking after it for thousands of years.
I support training Indigenous Rangers because they know our land better than anyone and I fully support them being trained & having full time work protecting our environment 🌱
A great program - may it grow and grow for the sake of the Land and it's People.
I support Indigenous rangers and protected areas because this is what makes Australia unique and beautiful. Indigenous rangers will gain meaning and purpose from the program, while being rightly paid for what they have successfully done for generations.
The first nations know and understand their lands better then any other people who live on the same land. First nations know how to keep it strong and healthy, also safe from damage caused by the greed of so few.
I support the indigenous Rangers and Indigenous Protected Areas program because it is formalising again in modern times the ancient truth. Country does need people and people need country. All of us. The rangers and program are helping to lead us well back to this connection and sustainable life.
I fully support the Rangers program. This country has been looked after for thousands of years by the traditional people of this land, it holds culture, it maintains families, it builds strength. With traditional owners, t is in the best hands <3
I reckon since we lived on the land, we grew up on this land and we know more about it than any other non indigenous Australians we should have these jobs almost everywhere in Australia so we can take better care of our land that we love
No one else knows and loves the land like Indigenous peoples. Having lived here for more than 40,000 years, having them as rangers and getting paid is the best idea ever. I hope it continues to cut down the rate of jail terms and give them back the country that was stolen so long ago. Their smiles tell me it is working.
It's possum woman dreaming time...COOEE
Simply because this land belongs to the "indigenous" people. Whatever it takes to ensure that us (the invaders) do not destroy or take any more land from them then measures need to be put in place. It is their land and we (descendants from the invaders) should be asking permission to use it.
This gives me hope for the future of all Australians as one with the land.
I want more indigenous rangers & indigenous protected areas as I believe they are the BEST people and custodians that have successfully managed/protected this land/country and will continue to do so for many generations to come if given the opportunity. We need to listen and follow their guidance to save our protected areas/flora & fauna before it's too late!
Australians from all walks of life are calling for more Indigenous rangers and Indigenous Protected Areas. This is a vital aspect to protect Australian Culture. It is a valuable project [ program ] that needs to be ongoing and maintained, without it Australia is in danger of loosing a part of its history and a part of its culture, Lets not allow the now or future Australian Government throw away something that is a must have for sustainability concerning Indigenous rangers and Indigenous Protected Areas, an Asset for now and in the future. YIRA YARKINY
All rangers should be indigenous
I believe that the care of the country is innate in Aboriginal people, even if they have been away for a while instinctively they love their country and know how to behave. That is what Australia needs for all of us
We need to keep alive a wonderful culture using those who know best. God bless these Rangers.
I've worked with some of these rangers - two-way learning is best the way for me to learn about country and how to look after it. Indigenous rangers should be very proud of their achievements. Keep it going!
History has shown that "white people" do not care for the land, they get rids of the trees, and the wildlife, without any conviction if they can make money. We need Indigenous rangers who care for our nation ~~~ not profit ~~~
Only indigenous people have an intimate knowledge of their country, therefore it is important that they can act as rangers for the benefit and education of Australians and overseas tourists.
Indigenous rangers are the most in tune and beautiful people to protect and nourish the natural beauty of this land. Their love is true and shines brightly in their hearts! Through this love they can also educate us all about how keep it safe in a sustainable way. Xx
I support this 100% because it humanly right it's a land management they know and truly understand there dream time and stories told of the land as we now know it than we do about land management of this country I like to see it as both our gift to them to gift it back of righting past wrongs done in colonisation which was so unlawfully taken off them returned in this way To be the bush Rangers they once were before colonisation took it from them unjustifiable so The time is right for the justice to be completed back to the bush Rangers they once were and still are in my ever humble opinion
This country needs Country Needs People for so many reasons, not least to see better connections, communication and cultural understanding amongst people.
Indigenous rangers are natural carers of this land. It is part of them and so it makes perfect sense that they should be essentially involved in looking after it. Once went on trip to Ngarrindjeri lands which was just wonderful because of the indigenous ranger and his unique insight.
This country is fragile and ancient and indigenous rangers have proven ability and knowledge to look after it. The land is part of them. Once went to Ngarrindjeri lands on a trip made so rich by the indigenous ranger.
Who better to look after our land and country than its own traditional caretakers
They have got the know-how of the bush and respect the bush. More of them would be very good but no white man interference please
Without the Rangers our country will deteriorate warerways will become polluted and the general well being of the land will be neglected
Because Australia needs people with heart to love Her and treat her and the animals and plants with hope and peace and love!
Because Australia needs people with heart to love Her and treat her and the animals and plants with hope and peace and love!
N.T.A.C (Ngyangabarra Traditional Aboriginal Corporation ICN:7885) NRM Land Care Group 110% supports Aboriginal Conservation and Land Management of traditional country on the Atherton and the Southern Tablelands of North Qld.
It's about respect for our people, our land and our environment
Well we seem to be helping every one else in the word. This is really a good cause. The Aboriginal people have been looking after this country and been doing a great job so please do not let it end.
We need people committed to Caring for country to stop atrocities like NSW state government selling a public reserve combining koala sanctuary and mambo wetlands out from under the Port Stephens community to a single man of unknown intentions. Adding to this the large area went from public to private hands for the pittance of $250 000. No house block in this region costs as little as this. Please help us save this Worimi land
This is so important for our wildlife and our country But it is also a wonderful way of letting these people take control of their country and to be proud of what they can achieve. In the past I have only been reminded of what the Aborigines have done in killing our precious wildlife. let us show the rest of Australia that there are some who are willing to put their hand up to save our heritage .I for one will support them all the way .
Our sea country, desert landscape & native species need more Indigenous Rangers. Country needs people and Australia needs knowledgeable, skilled, wise and aware Indigenous Rangers. This is one dreamtime story worth conserving and sharing.
Self explanatory - this land is theirs.
Indigenous people are the best option of correcting the damage that has been done in the last 200 years; introduced feral animals; fox's, rabbits, wild dogs and cats etc. pests and land clearing, salt destroyed land etc etc. Having indigenous rangers is a win win solution for Australia.
Support aboriginal people to work as Rangers to care for their land. The white government should be paying the aboriginal people for every piece of land they've stolen from them.
Indigenous people have generations of knowledge and experience of this land and I believe they are best positioned to be custodians and carers in the role of rangers. Allow them to care for and nurture this precious land.
I support indigenous rangers using tradition and cultural skills using nous and guts to reduce fuel loading sat appropriiate times. I would like to see this authority of trained people taking over timing of cool mosaic burns on all public land. I was an outback fire warden for 35 years.
Country needs people!
It’s natural and sensible to employ those that know the land, their land-
Indigenous people have been struggling and suffering in their own country for far too long. It's time to invest time, money and resources into programs to empower indigenous people and improve their economic and social lives.
I can think of no more important work for our country and for our children - both indigenous and non-indigenous - than to embrace the knowledge, wisdom and experience that has been passed down for tens of thousands of years by those who call this 'country'. By working in partnership with modern technology and making way for those who protected this ancient land and all its life-forms long before 'we' came here to continue to practice their traditions, we have the opportunity not only to benefit and learn from the love that they hold for this land, but also to begin to make amends for the destruction that ensued since 'white' men and women came here. This has the potential for such deep healing for us all; to learn from one another, to respect one another and to ensure that the things that are most precious and have been handed down for generations and through time are not lost or forgotten. Beautiful, inspiring work! Thank you!
If we are serious about protecting / saving / respecting indigenous culture, we need to protect the land. The land equals culture for indigenous communities.
Indigenous Rangers, honour and love Mother Earth and the environment. They hold their land in their hearts .
Supporting Indigenous Ranger programs to care for their Country, for each other and for our shared futures is good policy and a terrific investment in the sort of Australia I want to be part of.
Australia needs the ancestral knowledge of its indigenous peoples to protect its destruction from the mining and farming methods which have reeked havoc in parts of this land.
I see the Hunter River dying, we need the help of the original custodians to help save it. Balanda and their farming are killing it. It’s not theirs to kill. Without the water, there is no life. Please give the task to those who know best.
Who better to look after country than the Indigenous First Peoples who have a profound and spiritual connection to the land and the wildlife.
I support this petition because the Australian people have obligations to the First Nations peoples under international laws our government is a signatory to. A key human right is maintaining cultural heritage and connection to land.
We need to ensure we keep people Connected to and Caring for Country. The benefits are undeniable for the people and this land!
Amazing and valuable work, protecting this beautiful land and all the creatures on it. Nothing but love and respect for everyone involved. Thank you! Keep up the amazing work, you're inspiring ♥
Combining Indigenous Peoples with country cures an ills that beset both. It really is that simple!
THE ENTIRE WORLD IS INDIGENOUS. CONNECTING FOLKS TO THE EARTH IS AKIN TO BUILDING UMBILICAL CHORDS FOR OUR CREATION IN OUR UNIVERSE. IF WE CAN SURVIVE GRACIOUSLY ON OUR PLANET, THEN WE CAN SURVIVE GRACIOUSLY IN OUR UNIVERSE. UNIVERSE HOLDS EARTH
Australia needs Indigenous rangers to protect, care and educate the rest of us about their country. Traditional practices of LCM and regeneration of land destroyed by cattle, feral pests and weeds are urgently needed. Rangers are mentors to young kids in community.
Indigenous Australians connection to this unique land of Oz is the strongest and is essential to the natural wellbeing of the country and all of us. Aboriginal Rangers are a great way to help our first nations people and natural Australia thrive.
Recently I read a book Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe, and am so amazed and delighted by what I learned. Indigenous people have so much knowledge to share and it is all positive. Truly special people with special information to share.
With their knowledge of the country and countryside, it would be sensless for Australia not to fully support Indigenous Rangers for the protection of this country so that the generations that will follow us will be able to love and enjoy it as much as we do!
As Geoffrey Robertson said in the Faith bandler lecture 2018: humble in acknowledging the first owners and occupiers of this unique continent, sorrowful for the dispossession, discrimination and degradation they have endured and resolve hereafter to respect their relationship to the land and to atone for past wrongs by future equity.
Our once-sacred, once-pristine lands have been used as a short-term economic tool, to the detriment of the holistic environment's health. Common sense would say utilise the ancient Australians that gave us this unique land & waters in good condition only 200+ years ago.
Australia's natural environment needs protection from degrading effects of feral animals, weeds, wildfires, and climate change. Indigenous rangers are tackling these threats to protect Australia's environment for future generations.
It is the most logical thing to have Aboriginal rangers caring for the environment they will and do take so much care with the land, while strengthening their belief that they belong to the land, it nurtures the peoples soul connecting them to their mother earth to share this with others is so meaningful for everyone. We will only improve our knowledge and understanding of culture when we have more Aboriginal rangers to guide us.
I have had the privilege of working with a wide range of Indigenous Communities from Cape York to the Gibson Desert in WA and have seen first hand, the power of the Indigenous Ranger Program. Not only is it a very cost effective way of caring for country, its positive effects on self esteem and well being are incalculable. Congratulations on this high quality campaign.
Strong Islander and Indigenous role models are important for all of us that share this Country, they have no interest except in what is best for the land and wildlife of our ancient country.
I have seen the amazing jobs you do and read about it. What a great initiative to keep alive and going for generations to come. It’s part of your culture and way of life and so important to hold and keep for future ones.
I have been a long time supporter of the Traditional Owner Ranger programs that I see as an integral solution to crucial land management practices that protect our flora and fauna. The Ranger programs are now forging quality practice in carbon farming to reduce emissions. Well done all, I stand right here with you.
I have a strong brief in your work. This is the way forward for healing our land and the relationship we have with it and with each other
Wishing you all the very best in this great initiative!
I spend a lot of time out in nature and preserving this natural beauty and essential resource is imperative to our health and survival. I would prefer the historical and bountiful knowledge of Australia to be monitored and maintained by Indigenous rangers.
If anyone in the world knows Australia......it's the indigenous people, who else would make better custodians of our lands ? seems a perfect fit to me.
This program is the only rational way to manage these problems. Without the participation of local communities and dedicated individuals, we have no hope of fixing the errors of the past. My support is unconditional and vigorous and I will continue to monitor and support indigenous rangers in this most critical work. WW Former solicitor, NSW Aboriginal Legal Service.
What moves me beyond self are campaigns & causes for the good of man, our country & all species & Country Needs People is such. Indigenous Rangers work in challenging & remote environments & what a blessed thing for us, our sea country & vast land. They’re on the front line managing fire, saving species, boosting our economy, empowering women, creating jobs, enriching culture & so much more. Indigenous ranger jobs & Indigenous Protected Areas are key programs we need to secure & grow for the benefit of every Australian
Keep up the good work! When there are so many negative stories in the news, the work of the Indigenous rangers is uplifting and inspiring. This is what we need— a deep acknowledgement of the indigenous knowledge and their contribution to Australia.
Your people know their country, and you are the wall of knowledge that stands between destruction, and a wonderful place to be. Stay strong, and know that we support you.
Aboriginal peoples have been living here for over 60,000 years I believe they have the best knowledge on how to protect this land and more..
Because of thier mission and vision of the country to to protect and manage their land, sea and culture. I support the ide and the agenda of protecing the land.
Who better qualified than the first people of this nation to become rangers! Their natural love, spiritual connection to land, animals and country is a quality which is invaluable and needed for this service 😊
Because it supports Indigenous Rangers and the Environment.
Indigenous rangers have a deep connection with the land and we need to maintain and support this connection. It is important to future generations to ensure that this bond is unbroken.
I am a First Nations person, I have understood the importance of country my whole life, although I am a Computer Engineer and IT Manager, I know that I must support this initiative, to ensure it is far better supported by the majority government, or they will attempt to water it down as they have done many times in the past 100 years.
When our leaders look at places to invest our money, I believe country and community are our most precious resource. Our country and our communities need guardianship and healing. I believe Country Needs People
they know the land I have seen them work and do a great job I also think they should be running the stock rouets and doing the fire reduction all over Australia this needs to be put in place
The First Peoples knowledge of this great land we live in is vital to its future and the future of all mankind. They hold the key to preservation and care that is needed for the survival of the planet.
Our First Nation's people have cared & nurtured our land for more than 60,000 years. No one is better served to take this role. I join them, as a Natural Resource Manager, in their work to protect our Flora & Fauna. We are on the precipice to either let extinctions continue, or stand together no matter how big or small the contribution, to heal our land & increase our valuable creatures. It's up to all of us to support our Indigenous Rangers & increase their numbers to work towards our common goal. We live on a precious part of our earth unlike no other 💚🌿🌳🐨🦅🦉🦇🐝🦋💙🌊🐋🐬🐠🦈💛❤️🌏
Indigenous rangers have a rare and enviable understanding of this land. It's time to get behind and support traditional owners who can teach us how to respect and treasure this beautiful country. We must insist our government increase resources as this enables a rare insight into understanding the proper care and use of land. And most importantly we need to listen and learn.
I feel very close to this country because of a great love for its flora and flora. I paint the threatened flora species of the Cumberland plains woodlands of western Sydney. We only have about 6 percent of bushland left. I paint the disappearing herbaceous flowers that might disappear forever. I stretch a hand out in friendship across to all the people who are helping to save our flora and fauna. Sonia Bennett singer/songwriter/botanical artist.
Rangers are important to protect natural areas and help ensure they survive, for all of us Indigenous Rangers should have priority - the value of these jobs to indigenous communities, and to us as a society having IR's in public positions - fund it!
I support quality choices and opportunities and this program provides it in spades. I would definitely vote for the party who will continue to fund and support the program.
Teaching on Yurrwi (Milingimbi) I was privileged weekly to experience the Junior Rangers Program: connecting young people to the value of education through language, elder leadership, culture & country - the only true learning for remote students.
Give indigenous Australians back some more of their pride regarding land management.
Indigenous people have looked after and lived in our country for 10s of 1000s of years - they best understand its needs, how to care and sustain it. Real jobs such as Rangers are essential to First Nation's well being and our land. Expaning this program - benefits everyone!!!
Because no-one else could do it so well. They love their land.
It's the indigenous rangers, men and women, who, in my view, are the very best people looking after country. Their willingness to be educated and to do the job to the best of their ability promises to us all a country that's being cared for very well.
This is such a great initiative - who better to look after the land than those who know and love it?
This is the most practical way forward
It's vital that Country is cared for by those who know it best and have inherited knowledge from the ancient line of humans who've cherished and lived with it for thousands and thousands of years. These rangers and caretakers will train and pass on the knowledge and skills and work importantly to the next generation to grow and nurture that connection with Country. On and on and on. I trust them and this process implicitly.
The people who know most about this beautiful land we call Australia, are the people who have lived here for at least 50,000 years. They know one size policy does not fit all, they know how the different environments of this huge land differ, and how to care properly for these differences. Australia NEEDS Indigenous Rangers to care for land ‘the proper way’, the way it has been cared for over 50,000 years! Regards Christina McGuinness
IPAs cared for by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander custodians and rangers are an essential part of passing on and using Indigenous knowledge in looking after Country. This is vital in protecting biodiversity and heritage and reducing harm from climate impacts but contributing to effective Aboriginal voices in governance towards self determination.
It makes such good sense to have local indigenous people caring for their own country. As well as caring for the country and wildlife, regularly burning country lessens the probability of bushfires and the loss of crops and buildings. The insurance industry have much to gain!
Local employment for local people - care for country by people who care for country - all Australian environments are precious in a climate-change era and must be part of national climate-change action and policy.
The Australian landscape is part of the Australian entity and is a unique ecology that has been managed for thousands of years. It would be a loss not to use and develop the stewardship of the people that know and care about this land to maintain and sustain these habitats. Not only does this sustain the landscape but embraces the culture, and builds on Australia’ s uniqueness.
Being involved with Indigenous Protected Areas for nearly 20 years. I have witnessed first hand the positive impacts the programs and the commitment from community and individuals has and continues to have on nurturing our environment and our culture.
Their unique relationship to the land makes them the natural custodians of it
I support the work being done by indigenous rangers
Who else knows the country as well as these glorious people do? We need to have their wisdom and knowledge out there, and in here being shared. we need to step up and start taking care of this country, and I can't think of a better way to do it, or better people to do it.
Indigenous rangers are connected to the land in a unique way and are best placed to educate the rest of us. It is right and proper that we learn from, and our guided by them.
It's a great way to keep and use the skills and knowledge of indigenous people to look after our precious Australian environment.
On the precipice of major environmental changes and catastrophe, it is time we listened to the First Nations Peoples who kept this land in pristine condition for at least 70,000 years. The country and its animals need protection and care to heal. Further, in turn, this heals us; Our mind, bodies and spirit - not just those of Indigenous Peoples but everyone. Nature allows us to breathe, literally and figuratively, it brings joy and health which provides healthy communities and a healthy nation. Continued funding to Indigenous Rangers also means much needed jobs that not only bring in income but are meaningful.
This works!!! And it also provides real employment for our First Nation people.
I live in Bundjalung Country where the first ILU was signed; Country responds to Indigenous care, it's the reason the Caring For Country project was set up. So much knowledge, so much to teach. Australia - people and place - need this tradition. 100%
As you are the soveriegn peoples your Countries are yours your caring for country is essential. All the best
With Climate change, land clearing and habitat loss, its time to put a price on nature. 160,000 years of great care of the land was undertaken successfully by 1st Nations traditional practises, 1st people deserve the dignity of a worthy occupation. What could be more worthy? Please make sure there is long term structures to enable this approach so there is both job and land secuity and it be taken out of politics established in its own right.
Because we owe them big time and there good at they do . It’s about time we learn to listen to our first peoples
The people, the land, the original animals and the environment deserve all aspects of help from the Australian Community to recover and grow.
Let's leave behind our white mob thinking that 'the white way is the right way'. There is so much to learn from wonderful Indigenous cultures. Ranger jobs offer good opportunities to Indigenous adults and inspiration for Indigenous kids. Let's do it!

Who better to protect and preserve the physical and spiritual identity of Australia than people who can do it better than anyone else! This program works and is good for our whole society and our collective souls.
I support any indigenous initiative that allows indigenous people to be in charge of their own country and destiny instead of constantly being told what they need by various governments
The ranger program provides jobs, opportunities and autonomy to the original owners of the land.
Australia's Indigenous people have known this country for millenia. This knowledge is priceless, but properly supporting Indigenous Rangers to use this knowledge to care for the land and sea and inform our environmental policies is essential.
Having spent time in NT and WA when ranger programs were getting underway i recognised these programs were essential for caring for country and that we, as newcomers to this land could learn so much from our aboriginal brothers and sisters. Ranger programs must be fully funded and extended to enable continuous caring for country.
I think the better question is ... Why wouldn't you support the indigenous rangers?!?!?
Since colonization, white Australians have decimated this land and our nation now faces an extinction crisis. Indigenous knowledge and understanding of nature offers a critical path to redressing some of this damage. I wholeheartedly support the Country Needs People to help achieve this.
Strong successful people working gives kids a real sense that this is how life is💖 It’s the best way to a better future😊
Being rangers on their country means a huge amount to the Indigenous rangers, it lifts their pride and self esteem not only to themselves but also to their communities with their elders being proud they are doing good work and the young people having role models to look up to as they grow. There should be a lot more of them funded for the reasons in my 1st paragraph and I also think it will help to keep the over represented prison population down amongst Indigenous people which would be another big win for them.
I have journeyed through Australia, all through Victoria, NSW and QLD, all so commercial, but my trip of a lifetime was when I ventured through the centre of Australia, from Adelaide, up to Alice Springs, through the Gorges and wild open country right up to Darwin. The utmost was staying around Uluru, I did not climb the rock out of respect for the Indigenous People and their traditions, I learnt to dot paint, all about the foods from the bush and the training of the Indigenous youth to be Rangers and Caretakers of the NT. I felt my soul had been touched by the land and the spirits. Thank you for letting me be a part of your homeland and its traditions
It just makes sense for the people who have cared for this country for thousands of years should be still keep doing it. We don't need to re-invent the wheel on this, just allow these experts do what they do best, love and care for Country.
It's important that the culture is conserved and the best way to do this is to have indigenous rangers who have a connection to the land.
We need you to look after country, and to continue teaching us. I’m so grateful for all of you...
Thank you for all your amazing work to maintain and continue our Oz!! We are very blessed to have your great wisdom and knowledge passed down from the elders!! Power on mighty ones!😉😉😆😆😃😃
I believe that the largest part of Australian history is the jewel in our crown. International visitors flood Australia every year seeking to connect with Indigenous Australians. The ranger program is, at the least, vital for Australia to flourish.
Because they know what they are doing in relation to the land & our animals. Thank you very much!!
True carers of this land (we call Australia)should be the guides who show us their original ways to manage this country’s harsh climate conditions with its extreme nature and variation in rainfall periods. Climate extremes are currently accentuated by worldwide rises in temperature which scientists are proving is caused by our increased use of fossil fuels. Therefore it is vital to adapt to an ever changing and even harsher climate in order to successfully maintain soil quality, avoid erosion and grow adapted crops that will provide food to sustain both human and animal life in balance with our climate. For thousands of years the first custodians of this continent passed on their knowledge of how to manage the burning of grasslands and cultivation of indigenous seed bearing grasses on open plains. So much of that knowledge has been ignored by the European settlers and forgotten in current management and cultivation. If we as humans are to reap an existence in the arid interior of Australia we need to find again these methods to adapt, and to care for the soil. An example of this is seen in the Piliga region of NSW where forests were planted by European settlers on what was open plains used for the cultivation of such grasses. Now there are Cypress pine trees that are scrubby & of little interest to the timber industry. European settlers also introduced cattle and sheep to these landscapes and the constant impact of their hooves has compacted the soil, lowering the fertility of the top layer of soil. Can we not learn better ways from those original land carers, our Indigenous people? Inspired by the book: “The biggest estate on earth”
The Worlds leading environmental Scientist and Media at all levels are telling us about Global warming! It great to see our mob taking care of our country, which we have for thousands of years, particularly, when it's your Dreaming, that is really powerful. i take great pride in seeing First Australians leading the way.
Native bushland and deserts are one of Australia's greatest assets. We need indigenous knowledge to reduce bushfires and more reduction of feral introduced species. This can become a truly wild remaining place in the world.
There is a serious need for more rangers and more protected lands for the wildlife. The white community has failed the land and it wildlife. Adrian Burragubba of the Galilee Basin has lost his ancestral land to more stinkin' mines. Enough is enough, no more mines, preserve the land and all the life it contains.
Those are the aborigines that i liked! The ones that got knowledge and history of this land and do a lot for their and now my country!! Hope they will be listen and help in whatever they want achive!!!
I think it is wonderful that we finally recognise our indigenous people, show support and respect for the knowledge they have.
Australia will not survive without our Indigenous rangers. Besides recognition for their work, culture and self-esteem, they are healing damaged country which will save us from bushfires, poisoned water (wetland work) and starved soils. Well done.
Even though I will never see these areas just knowing they exist and are well looked after gives me great pleasure in these days of hugely discouraging environmental and cultural news.
I applaud and thoroughly support Indigenous Rangers, whom I think are our Living Cultural Heritage in person. With their ancient knowledge of the land and their communities, there is no higher direct connection to these Indigenous Protected Areas. We need more Indigenous Rangers and we need more areas protected.
I'm so pleased that there is some recognition of your generations of knowledge ofcountry. Will support your efforts. Thank you.
l support this program for many reasons but one of the main ones is that Aboriginal people understand this land better than anyone else..they need a chance to help us heal the damage done over the last 200 plus years and to help rebuild their own culture and sense of belonging to this continent!
While this is great much more needs to be done including seeking advice from our FNP in caring for ALL national parks. Living in NE Vic this is a real concern particularly with the invasive plants adding to intensity of fires. I am not aboriginal but I support everything you are doing. We ALL benefit and I would like my grandkids to experience some of the wonders of our country that I have growing up.
Our country has been cared for with kindness for thousands of years, and flourished, I am so glad to hear that country’s custodians will again be caring for the land and all who live upon it. Great news!
This is wonderful news! Congratulations to any and all politicians that have assisted it doing the right thing. Bravo for being brave and doing something worthwhile. Thank you.
Indigenous Australians have the deepest and broadest knowledge of the land and its waterways and this includes the knowledge of how to manage it and maintain its life force.
I'm so glad to see first nations people as custodians of their land. This is how it should be. I've lived in some remote places and seen Aboriginal art on rock faces and even rock carvings. I am mindful that I walk on Aboriginal land.
It is vital that all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples be able to care for Gunhidhaagun (Mother Earth) as our Ancestors once did for many thousands of years. Gunhidhaagun is slowly suffocating and, it is up to us to heal her. We have the skills, solutions, knowledge and ability to heal and care for her in the way she needs to be. Let us show the respectful way to care, nurture and heal her - our way.
Supporting the Indigenous Rangers programme is a very practical way for me to have an impact on climate change. The local people know what is needed to keep country strong and well.
I think the evidence is in on several very important points: Aboriginal Australians were not just hunter gatherers. As Bruce Pascoe has shown they have been custodians and managers of the land for thousands of years. My own experience in regional and western Queensland, both growing up in a small western town, and working as a GP for forty years, shows me that Aboriginal conservation of land and culture is very essential to the well-being of Aboriginal people, Australian country, and Australia as a people moving forward together. The single biggest factor in determining outcomes for Aboriginal children is self-respect and self-knowledge. This grows from the family and extended family showing a lived life with meaning and spirituality backing it up. Naturally health, education and disability are contributing factors but without meaning, we are all lost wanderers. So I come to the point of saying, that at 70 years of age I feel a groundswell of rejuvenation and rehabilitation of Aboriginal culture and respect for it is occurring in Australia. Your government has made a major contribution with this latest joint venture and I warmly and sincerely congratulate you on it. May your efforts be fruitful and rewarding to you, to Australia and to the local Aboriginal people and their Rangers.
we can learn so much from our traditional owners, they hold so much knowledge when it comes to managing and maintaining our country and our ecosystem.. We could learn so much from them
I support them 100% even though I don’t live in an area that is cared for by them . I just know we need the rangers wisdom to save and protect what is left of our natural environment. We need Aboriginal rangers in every state everywhere Great work
Indigenous Ranger positions acknowledge and facilitate the return of Aboriginal peoples to practice our intrinsic and intimate knowledges of our Countries, related ecosystems and associated lands and fire management. Colonial systems fail us.
Indigenous rangers do fantastic work looking after country. Their knowledge handed down over generations must be invaluable environmentally and culturally for us all. I love it. The more the better.
They have treasured and respect this land. We need to listen and learn from them.
I support Indigenous Rangers having the same pay as other rangers which would include the same benefits of the job, such as housing, leave loading, special rates etc. This would help keep local knowledge of Country alive, build pride and jobs.
Who knows more than the indigenous people about support for the land, and what country needs that more than Australia right now?
20 years defence as an aboriginal member ... 8.5 years as a volunteer bushfire brigade member.. i grew up in the bush in the N.T. and we did burns and lit fires as prescribed under aboriginal lore and created mozaic patterns and safe areas...
I fully support indigenous rangers because I believe the aboriginals know so much more about caring for this country than anyone else. I believe the government should meet with a number of the elders to get advice and help on how to move forward with looking after our land waterways. I also believe in indigenous protected areas so they are kept natural and safe havens for our native flora and fauna as well as protecting their art and sacred sites. It is very important for the aboriginal culture.
Wonderful iniative. Aboriginal Rangers and more of them!
Though I am a white woman I love and respect the Indigenous people and their knowledge and love of their land...
I have lived in Darwin from 1971 - 2013, on my retirement I moved to Queensland. Matters relating to Darwin, the Top End & N.T. generally are still close to my heart & I had close connection to the N.T. Aboriginal people over many years (particularly the Yolngu/Gumatj clan of Galliwinku. While I enjoy my retirement in Queensland - N.T. still close to my heart & Aboriginal people. God bless you all, wish you all the best & a Happy New Year 2020 and Merry Christmas
We need aboriginal fire management practices implemented immediately, there needs to be acknowledgment that traditional mosaic burning is better for the environment and biodiversity. The NT needs to control the gamba grass threat by some other means than giving away tonnes of glycophosphate that eventually ends up in our waterways
Aboriginal fire management practices need to be revisited in the NT Gamba grass fires are slowly burning all the understory and the bigger trees including the wildlife it’s an environmental disaster. Using aboriginal rangers just makes so much sense it’s a win win win situation
Even more than ever with the state of the planet and climate change, mounting extreme weather events and unprecedented bush fires we need custodians of country. There is no better person's for this role than indigenous that have an innate understanding and connection to country that western people could only dream of. We need those who value and respect our country to take care of and save as much of it as possible.
I fully support indigenous rangers as they care for country and have the ability to maintain country in all regards especially fire management. I am seeing devastation of country where I live at the Bunya Mountains so much so we are great risk of losing Jurrasin Bunya Trees that have outlived us thrice over. If indeginous were in charge of looking after country may not be the case. Too late once they are gone. Also they are doing a great job where I live directly behind Russel Park.

A great program - with positive social, environmental and economic outcomes for community. So good to see.
Colonisation has directly led to climate change and climate loss. When you remove custodians from country, you remove protection of country. Land back now.
With over 60 000 years experience, the Indigenous People are the leading experts of flora and fauna conservation and environmental protection in Australia. It is in every Australians best interest that the Federal, and State governments increase their funding to train and employ Indigenous Park Rangers.
Who else but the first people of this wonderful country to become the protectors of the land. They take from the Dreamtime the stories of our connection to the land. It’s a Spiritual thing. This connection. I’m not Aboriginal but I feel such a connection to the land, the earth, the trees and all the creatures on it. Here in Australia where there’s so many diverse creatures found only here in this great land of ours. Thank you
I have to teach my children about First Nation culture, because their schools don’t! Teach our children by showing them! We need more of our First Nations people employed to take care of our beautiful lands! Every council, every city, every state!
They have protected this land for thousands of years.Being one with the land government needs to finally listen. To stop the devastation that we all have just witnessed any loss of life needs action so this never happens again
Indigenous people are the obvious choice to be employed as rangers. It is their heritage to protect their country. Really Its a no-brainer
Totally support aboriginal communities, it's your land and yous know better than anyone how to look after your land, one example is the recent bush fires which the white fulla don't want to listen to the first nations people. At one with the land, sea, the seasons, animals so beautiful. I'm am NZ Maori would be able to come and learn about country?
If we recognized the importance of Indigenous knowledge of our land 20 + years ago we would not have had the severe bushfires. The Murray would not be a disaster. To restore Australia’s beauty we should hand over all landcare to our Indigenous people
If anyone knows the land it is Indigenous people who better to do the job of overseeing land and forests wildlife and being fine Rangers
People who live on their own land know best how to protect it, to tell it's stories, to use it appropriately, and to share it with others in a controlled and appropriate way.
Thank you for the continuing strength of your commitment to your ancient land.
Thank you for protecting our precious environment. Our children and grandchildren will be the beneficiaries of your important work.
Now over 30 years after immigrating to Australia, I am forever amazed and inspired by the indigenous peoples. Your longevity and environmental custodian-ship can never be matched, you are beautiful people. Stay strong
Thankyou for all your ethics of care, carrying out of spiritual obligations and healing ceremonies, and your ongoing commitment to Country.
I’ve seen first hand the incredible work done and connection cultivated and shared by indigenous rangers and guides at Dharawal NP. It is something I wouldn’t want to see lost, but rather to grow further and positively impact more- people and land.
