Published: 27 Sep 2016I don't think there should be any question that there should be as many indigenous rangers as possible. You want a diverse workforce capable of looking after this land and indigenous people who come from those areas have traditional connections that others don't have. They have a stake, a vested interest. Plus it's also clear that people need to be gainfully employed to be independent. I'm all for appropriate training and opportunities to enable more indigenous rangers. I think it could be a significant selling point, also, for attracting international tourists - because local (indigenous) knowledge is deep.
