25 Years of Indigenous Protected Areas

Country Needs People

Since their first declaration in 1998, Indigenous Protected Areas have overcome challenges, achieved successes and grown in number and size across Australia.

To celebrate the anniversary of 25 years since the dedication of the first IPA we created this in-depth publication highlighting their crucial role in safeguarding biodiversity, culture, threatened species and more - with an eye to the exciting future that IPAs have to offer for Country and all Australians.

Country Needs People is a national not-for-profit organisation born from the support of hundreds of Traditional Owners around the country.

We pay our respects to all the First Nations people around Australia and their unbroken commitment to keep Country strong on land and sea. We acknowledge Indigenous partners, Traditional Owners, Elders past, present and emerging and extend our appreciation of their support and guidance of our daily work.

ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE, ABORIGINAL LAND.
