Indigenous land and sea management offers new business opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The additional revenue stimulates local economies and increases job opportunities.
More than 60 per cent of Indigenous Protected Areas and Indigenous ranger groups undertake commercial activities, mainly fee-for-service contracts with conservation, mining and pastoral industries.
Examples include working in tourism activities such as managing campgrounds and conducting tours, the sustainable use of wildlife, participating in the carbon market through fire management programs, and feral animal control and sale.
