OUR VISION

Healthy, biodiverse Country cared for by vibrant communities strong in culture across Australia.

OUR ROLE

Supporting Indigenous communities to protect, maintain, and restore biodiversity and sustain, strengthen, and transmit culture on Country.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

When well supported and managed, Indigenous land and sea management is essential to protecting nature, transforming lives and sustaining culture. The successes for Indigenous land and sea management include:

  • Protecting biodiversity by tackling the management of fire, feral animals, invasive weeds and threatened species
  • Sustaining culture by helping Indigenous organisations facilitate the transfer of intergenerational knowledge
  • Ensuring physical access to Country for renewing cultural responsibilities, active rehabilitation and protection of places of significance on land and sea
  • Providing opportunities for people by creating valued locally supported jobs, enabling individuals to care for their families and creating a positive economic and social influence for communities.

CREATING IMPACT

Country Needs People are advocating for:

  • More Indigenous-led management of land and sea Country
  • An increasing area of land and seas under First Nations' management
  • First Nations people working on Country in properly resourced ranger jobs and related roles
  • Biodiversity protection and improvements across Australia
  • Federal, state and territory governments delivering long-term, well-designed and properly funded support.

We must support Indigenous land and sea management to protect our unique natural heritage for future generations of Australians.

The destiny of Australia's biodiverse landscapes is in your hands.

Country Needs People is a national not-for-profit organisation born from the support of hundreds of Traditional Owners around the country.

We pay our respects to all the First Nations people around Australia and their unbroken commitment to keep Country strong on land and sea. We acknowledge Indigenous partners, Traditional Owners, Elders past, present and emerging and extend our appreciation of their support and guidance of our daily work.

ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE, ABORIGINAL LAND.
