Why Support Indigenous Rangers? 

Community-based Indigenous Rangers are out working on Country every day, protecting nature for all Australians.

They’re undertaking important fire management, working to control feral animals and invasive weeds, monitoring and protecting threatened species, responding to extreme weather impacts on nature and community, and working to protect culturally important values and sites. 

Indigenous Rangers are a success story – Ranger jobs are highly valued local jobs for men and women, transforming communities, and changing lives in NSW. It’s time for the NSW Government to step up and show their support. This vital work needs long-term NSW Government funding and practical support on the ground, to ensure caring for Country is strengthened into the future.

With the help of thousands of supporters like you over the years, we have been able to ensure that pollies of every stripe and persuasion are hearing about the importance of strengthening and securing the work of Indigenous Rangers. Let’s make sure NSW state pollies get the message loud and clear.

Dear local member/candidate,

As a voter in your local electorate who’s a proud NSW resident, I want to see direct investment from the NSW Government in practical things that benefit nature and people, like Indigenous Rangers and their work caring for Country.

Indigenous Rangers are on the frontline - protecting NSW’s most beloved native species, regenerating our bushlands and coastline, fighting to control invasive weeds and pests, managing fire, safeguarding cultural sites, and providing emergency assistance during or after extreme weather events.

The work of Indigenous Rangers is growing across NSW - from the outback to the mountains to the coast - but we know nature and wildlife are under increasing pressure, and it’s challenging work for Indigenous Ranger teams and the community-based organisations that host them. We need to deliver the practical support to community-based Indigenous Rangers that they need, to sustain and strengthen their efforts to look after Country that benefits us all.

As a local resident in your electorate, I strongly support the Country Needs People campaign for government to create a dedicated funding program and staff support team for community-based Indigenous Rangers in the NSW environment department.

We haven’t yet heard whether there will be strengthened and focused support for NSW’s community-based Indigenous Rangers over the next term of government, and I want to hear about your commitment to their future. It’s critical that NSW Indigenous Rangers have the funding and practical operational support they need so they can continue to look after our state for everyone who calls NSW home.

As a representative of your and/or your party’s position, could you please let me know if you will:

1. Support the creation of a dedicated support team within the NSW environment department to give practical assistance to strengthen and secure community-based Indigenous Rangers and their work in NSW. 
2. Commit to setting up a dedicated NSW Indigenous Ranger grants program to support and strengthen operational, project and infrastructure needs for Ranger teams caring for Country in NSW.
3. Develop a long-term, ongoing approach to ensuring state government is strengthening and working alongside community-based Indigenous Rangers and their caring for Country work across NSW, because this work is too important for temporary measures.   

These issues are important to me as a voter, as someone who cares about nature in NSW and community-based efforts to protect and sustain it.

Please tell me you and your party's plans to secure funding and support for Indigenous Rangers in NSW to protect Country and Culture into the future.
