Sign the Petition to Support Qld Indigenous Rangers

    Join the call

Before the Qld Election, tell your local candidates that the growth and security of Indigenous ranger funding is important to you and ask them how they plan to support Indigenous rangers.

There is plenty of work to do in Queensland in sustaining and repairing our natural and cultural heritage. We need local boots on the ground that are skilled and supported to manage fire, feral animals, weeds and natural and cultural heritage. Who better to take up this work than local traditional owners of country through Indigenous Ranger jobs?

We know Queensland can do more, and every new Ranger position means a job where it’s needed, in the bush and the regions, around our urban fringe delivering value for every Queenslander. Ahead of the 2020 Qld Election, now is an important time to let each of your local candidates know that Queenslanders want to grow the number of Indigenous ranger jobs.

Sign this petition to call on all Qld pollies to grow the number if Indigenous ranger jobs in Queensland.

Indigenous rangers are delivering powerful results for nature and for people in Queensland. Rangers are tackling the threats of feral animals, invasive weeds and destructive wildfires, as well as rescuing and researching wildlife, maintaining tourism infrastructure, and protecting cultural sites. The work rangers do is good for all Queenslanders, and Ranger jobs deliver meaningful employment where it’s needed in the bush and the regions.

Queensland’s Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger program is rightly acclaimed for delivering results across some of the most ecologically and culturally special environments in the world.

But there is an urgent need to grow the number of Indigenous ranger jobs to meet the scale of environmental need and demand from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

    Dear local candidates,

Queensland moved early and stayed strong when dealing with the threat from COVID-19. It’s been a tough year, but we have all stepped up and done the right thing. Now we need the Qld government to get behind Queensland Indigenous rangers by growing the number of ranger jobs.

The current number of Indigenous rangers does not meet the scale of the environmental need or the overwhelming demand from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Indigenous rangers are delivering powerful results for nature and for people in Queensland. Rangers are tackling the threats of feral animals, invasive weeds and destructive wildfires, as well as rescuing and researching wildlife, maintaining tourism sites, and protecting cultural sites. The work Rangers do benefits for all Queenslanders, and Ranger jobs are creating meaningful employment where it’s needed in the bush and the regions.

Doubling the number for Indigenous Rangers over the next four years will mean more well supported Rangers doing work that benefits all Queenslanders.

Queensland’s stunning environment, tourism sector and lifestyle depends on healthy country. For Queensland to bounce back from COVID-19, we have to invest in local people. You can’t get any more local than Queensland Indigenous rangers working day in day out to care for country. And, Queensland’s Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger program is rightly acclaimed for its outstanding results across some of the most ecologically and culturally special environments in the world.

I want to hear you and your party’s response. Please tell me how you and your party plans to grow and extend the funding for Queensland’s Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger program?

    Yours sincerely,
